‘Twilight’ Movie Wins Big at MTV Movie Awards

Standard

Sunday night, the MTV Movie Awards aired on MTV. While there was some sexual humor from “Saturday Night Live” funny man Jason Sudeikis, a rockin’ musical performance by the Foo Fighters, and Arnold Schwarzenegger illegitimate-kid jokes, but the largest amount of time was taken by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” movie and it’s cast.

The movie was nominated for eight awards and went home with five. It won for Best Movie for the third year in a row, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart won Best Kiss (which Rob chose to celebrate with a kiss to Taylor Lautner instead of real-life girlfriend, Stewart). Stewart and Pattinson also won for best female and best male performances, respectively. Pattinson won an additional prize for best fight — sharing the tub of gold popcorn with Bryce Dallas Howard and Xavier Samuel.

Speaking of “Twilight,” a sneak peek of the fourth installment, “Breaking Dawn” was aired on last night’s show. Special footage of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” which comes out July 15 and “Super 8” which hits theaters this Friday, June 10 were shown, as well.

Justin Bieber won Best Jaw-Dropping Moment for his “Never Say Never: 3D” concert film. The Biebs was on hand to thank his family, director, and fans.

Now to the humor…

Host Jason Sudeikis made Selena Gomez blush when he made a suggestive joke about her and boyfriend, Justin Bieber. The comic also brought up the situation of Blake Lively’s nude photos that have surfaced on the internet. When Sudeikis introduced her as a presenter he said, “what I believe is the real Blake Lively, but she won’t confirm it.”

Winner of the Generation award for all of her success in genre-spanning-box-office hits, Reese Witherspoon, also addressed the nude picture/sex tape business when she accepted her award. “I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it’s cool to be bad. I get it … but it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show,” Witherspoon said to a cheering audience. She continued, “When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed, you hid it under your bed … and, like, if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people!”

In closing, the actress thanked MTV for years of support and all of the fans who had made it possible for her to live out her life-long dream.

The Foo Fighters performed their new tune “Walk” (which will be in the jukebox soon) and Lupe Fiasco brought down the house with the debut of “Out of My Head” ft. Trey Songz who was on stage to assist. Fiasco did his “The Show Goes On” from Lasers as well.

Britney Spears Hosts Event to Benefit New Orleans

Standard

The Ambassador for the St. Bernard project, Britney Spears, hosted an event last night to benefit the charity and the families it supports in New Orleans. Y’all know that’s my home town right?! So this news really hits home for me.

Brit hosted an event at a private residence in Beverly Hills that she called an Evening of Southern Style.

Just a few days before the event, Brit called out to her devoted fanbase via Twitter to support the cause. “Text BRITNEY to UNITED (864833) to donate $10 to the St. Bernard Charity, which is dedicated to rebuilding homes after Katrina,” she tweeted.

Attendees included Kim Kardashian, Hillary Duff, and Selena Gomez who all came to show some love for the St. Bernard Charity. The project helps to rebuild homes and rebuild lives of people that were severely effected by Hurricane Katrina, and since Ms. Spears is from Louisiana, she has latched on to this charity with her whole heart.

“The St. Bernard Project is an incredible organization whose main focus is rebuilding Louisiana. I am so honored to be part of this cause. Louisiana will always be a part of my soul,” says Britney.

She and boyfriend, Jason Trawick arrived looking very dapper with Brit in a lime green, tight fitting cocktail dress and Jason in a suit. Spears kept the focus on the South by serving her special recipe of sweet tea in lemon and peach flavors. She wasn’t the only one servin’ up the Southern style though. Spears’ dad, Jamie was the cook for the evening as he prepared Southern dishes with all the fixin’s.

The St. Bernard Project, whose volunteers number around 32,000, have been a great help around here. People think since it’s been 5 years, everything is back to normal, but it’s not. Together the St. Bernard project and Britney have rebuilt homes in the New Orleans area for 350 families and counting.

As a resident of New Orleans, I can truly say Thanks Britney!

While the teen stars have never publicly spoken about their romance, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez attended the famous Vanity Fair Oscar Party after the 83rd annual Academy Awards ended.

Our insiders say that Bieber and Gomez posed for more pictures inside the party and looked at each other’s phone while texting or maybe tweeting…

Gomez posted a TwitPic of herself with Bieber and his manager, Scooter Braun, and Braun’s date.

So now that we know Gomez and Bieber are an item, we need a celeb name for them! What do you think of Biemez?? How about JustiLena??

DJ Lilly’s picks and predictions – do you agree with her?

Standard

Hey HP!

I have noticed that some of my blogs get really critical and I apologize to anyone (famous or not) who is caught in the crossfire. I am very opinionated (when it comes to music anyway), and that I will not apologize for. I rated A LOT of songs this week at HitPredictor and I am going to try to focus more on the good; but we will see what happens.

I liked “Poison” by Nicole Scherzinger, it was nice to hear something a little bit different from her. Most people consider her the entire PCD group anyway (notice all the other members quit and its now her with new girls). I liked “Off The Chain” by Selena Gomez, but I don’t think it will find the success of her previous singles. I really liked the Samantha Darnell songs that were in the jukebox, she is very talented and I hope we hear more from her in the future (preferably with a record deal)! I liked “Airplanes” by The Ready Set, I thought it was a good remake of an awesome song (the original is one of my favorite songs of 2010 – be sure to tune into my top 50 to see where it ranks at the end of the year)! Although not really new, I did like Default’s “Turn It On. I also liked “Stay the Night” by James Blunt, nice to hear new stuff from him! I am not a country fan, but I must say that I enjoyed Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson’s duet, “Don’t You Want To Stay?” I am a huge Kelly fan and she is still my favorite American Idol Alum. Speaking of American Idol, now this will come to no surprise to anyone that has been reading my blogs the past few months, but my favorite song of the week goes to “Hold On” by Crystal Bowersox (I know, you are shocked). I think it’s a well written song with a good melody and lyrics.

Time to focus on the bad: I didn’t like “Sex On My Money” by John Brown. I thought it was dumb. I didn’t like “Well Well Well” by Duffy either. It wasn’t bad, I just didn’t like it. I must say, I used to like Taylor Swift (a little); but now I am kinda getting tired of her. I also didn’t like “Roman’s Revenge” by Nicki Minaj and Eminem. I thought the song as a whole kinda sucked (I expect better from both performers, especially together). I didn’t like “The Cave” by Mumford and Sons. I just thought it was a dumb song. The worst song of the week award goes to Amy Winehouse for “It’s My Party.” I don’t really like her music anyway and her voice annoys me; but you definitely don’t make your comeback by remaking a classic (unless you can do it really well). I mean just ask Britney Spears (My Prerogative anyone? Yeah, me either).

Last, but not least, I need to bring up the Hot 100 (which I haven’t done in awhile). Ke$ha’s new single, “We R Who We R”, actually made it to number one! I am definitely confused as to how or why. The lyrics are dumb, and the song sounds pretty much like all her past hits (except she really outdid herself this time, it’s pretty bad). I am guessing people like it for the beat, which is the only good part. Pink’s new single, “Raise Your Glass,” is holding steady at number 10 and I really hope it gets higher next week. The rest of the Top 10 hasn’t changed, so not much else to really say about it.

In closing, please show your support for Resolution Radio (my pride and joy of the past 4 years) and tune in every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night at 9 p.m. Eastern! We appreciate all the support and if you can’t tune in, please spread the word to people that can! My Top 50 show, “It’s Not Billboard; Its Lillboard”, will be on 12/26 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern! Nina C. finds unique talent in mystery artist at HitPredictor

Standard

Guest blogger and HitPredictor member Nina C. reports on the new music finds and what she liked and didn’t like in the jukebox each week at HitPredictor. Many of these songs are still available so make check them out and let us know whether you agree or disagree! And, make sure you check out Nina’s other blog, TwilightNera’s Entertainment Hotspot for other news in the entertainment world and make sure to check out the freebie giveaway she’s got going on over there right now!

I will always recommend HitPredictor to anyone who loves music, but the new music this week was overall, in my opinion, pretty bad. So, I want to focus on the few songs that I did like this week. There were songs such as “January Jones,” “Joy and Misery,” and “Tighten Up” that were in the jukebox but had no artist title. I was impressed with whoever the artist was on these tracks because I think he is a really talented rapper. The rap remix “Tighten Up” was really creative and unique, so a big thumbs-up to this secret artist.

Chris Brown has been making a major comeback lately with a No. 1 song and movie.  “Yeah 3x” is a really good dance tune and seems like it will be another hit from him. Although I like the song I do wish Brown would go back to making more R&B songs but “Deuces” was a very good R&B tune. “In for the Kill” by La Roux was not a very good dance song. Unlike “Bulletproof” this dance song was just filled with annoying vocals and techno tunes. I just really was not feeling this song. I could never, ever sit through an entire episode of Glee but their rendition of “Empire State of Mind” was really good. I do appreciate that cast of Glee have really great vocals and this is one of their best covers yet.

I’m not a follower of the rising stars coming from Disney so I am only familiar with Selena Gomez through HitPredictor. The other songs were cute pop but “Rock God” brings a lot more mature sound for Gomez and it really works. Rock God is a pop song with a slight rock edge that shows signs that her music is really upgrading to a new audience. Runaway” by Kanye West feat. Pusha T. is another bizarre song from Kanye. Even though he seems like he knows he is wrong the song still has an air of arrogance to it. I don’t really pay much attention to anything Kanye says anymore because it never makes much sense.  I really enjoyed the music of The Green Children, the song “Life Savior” has beautiful vocals and indie style music that is not heard every day. I really like the unique talent and sound of this group.

What were the songs you liked or disliked this week?

DJ Lilly gives her picks – who was her winner this week?

Standard

If I ever hear a Norah Jones song again, it will be way too soon. The past few weeks have been taken up by way too much of her music. I am hoping there is light at the end of this tunnel.

One song I was going to review last week is “Maybe” by Sick Puppies; I actually thought it was pretty good. I also liked some of the Kat Deluna tracks that were in the jukebox recently. My brother loves the song “In For The Kill” by La Roux; but I just wasn’t feeling it. I do think it could be another hit though. A good friend of mine is really into Christina Perri’s song, “Jar of Hearts.” The song isn’t in the jukebox any more (it was a few weeks ago), but I thought I would give my opinion on it anyway. I love the lyrics and I love the melody and I hope the song catches on and becomes a huge hit.

I loved the Glee Cast’s version of “Empire State of Mind.” I thought they did an awesome job. I liked Cee-Lo’s “Forget You/F U”; but the unedited version is so much better! If you are going to listen to a song like that, no point in listening to an edited version. I liked Alex Goot’s “Apple of My Eye”, but I am not sure yet if it will become a hit or not. The Green Children songs were definitely something different, I kinda liked some of them. It was also nice hearing something new from Rob Zombie, even though it wasn’t necessarily “good.” I liked Matt Hires’ “A to B” and I hope it becomes a hit too.

I have never really been a fan of Train, but their songs aren’t usually too bad. The lead singer’s voice just annoys me sometimes (in certain songs). I think “Marry Me” will be another hit song for them. Another song I wasn’t quite feeling is the new My Chemical Romance song, “Na Na Na.” I didn’t think it lived up to the band’s full potential. It seems to be doing OK on Billboard though (Top 20 on Alternative, Top 50 on Rock). I just wasn’t feeling “Magdalena” by Brandon Flowers and I didn’t think it was as good as “Crossfire”; but I do wish him much success in his future career. Selena Gomez’ “Rock God” was OK; but I prefer songs like “Round & Round” and “A Year Without Rain.”

Last, but certainly not least, one of my favorite songs in the jukebox this week was Karmina’s “Slow Down” (which I submitted). I think they are a talented indie band with music that is very different than other stuff you hear on the radio. Their 2008 song, “The Kiss” became a pretty well known song, based on the music video alone (which featured Amanda Ireton from MTV’s “A Shot At Love”). I write song lyrics and I really like the lyrics of “Slow Down” and the music is pretty good too. I think it’s time to get something different on the radio and I really hope that this song makes it (or any future song by these talented ladies). They made it to number 20 on my Top 50 in 2008, and they made it to DJ Isis’ Top 10 that same year. This year will be their return to the countdown. If you want to tune into the countdown, and find out what this year’s No. 1 will be, the show begins at 8:30 p.m. EST on December 26th. In the meantime, keep it tuned to Resolution Radio every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday night at 9 p.m. Eastern and please participate in the contest starting December 1st! Oh yes, and if you want me to rate a specific song (or artist), all you have to do is e-mail me! – DJ Lilly (hewitt_fanatic@musician.org)

DJ Lilly’s picks on up-and-coming hits!

Standard

Hey HP!

Ok, as promised I do have a song that I submitted to the HitPredictor jukebox to rate this week! I chose “Seven Month Itch” by Alana Grace. I have been a fan of hers since the very beginning of her career (which was a few years ago or so) and I am glad she is getting more recognition. It isn’t her best song; but it will be on her new album! If you want to hear more of her music; check out her MySpace page (and tell her Lilly sent you):  myspace.com/alanagrace.

So, one of my current favorite songs finally entered the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 this week at No. 9! I Love Nelly’s “Just A Dream” (and I remember rating it in the HitPredictor jukebox not that long ago). I honestly think it is his best song in a while (coming from someone who thinks most rap is crap).

As far as the jukebox goes, I thought the new Trapt song “Sound Off” was ok; but definitely doesn’t live up to their potential – I see it staying a pretty minor hit. I liked Jesse McCartney’s new song, “Shake”; but not as well as some of his others. Sevendust’s “Forever” was a pretty good song and I see it becoming a bigger hit on the rock charts. I really liked Selena Gomez’s song “A Year Without Rain”; it was kinda nice to have her ditch the Disney-esque sound for a few minutes.

Now, anybody that knows me could tell you that I am a HUGE fan of Rihanna, but I wasn’t feeling her new song “Only Girl (In the World)”. Maybe I am the only one, but I have liked her sound more since the Good Girl Gone Bad album, and I am sad she is going back to a more pop-ish sound.

Willow Smith, hmm what to say. I think she is a very talented little kid, that comes from a very talented father; but I thought the song “Whip My Hair” was kinda dumb (if you listen to the lyrics). She does have a good voice though (for a 9-year-old girl).

Another song I wasn’t feeling was “Firework” by Katy Perry; just wasn’t her best. Speaking of Katy Perry, after last week’s blog about Ke$ha and her possible sophomore slump I was asked to give my opinion as to why Katy Perry didn’t have a sophomore slump. Well, this is just my opinion, so don’t hate! Katy Perry has been around for quite a while; this isn’t really her second album. She knows what she is doing and has figured out what it takes to be successful. She is very opinionated and always has interesting music videos and wardrobes – all of these things get people’s attention. Her songs also don’t (usually) sound the same and she isn’t afraid to push the envelope! (By the way, if you don’t already know this; Katy Perry is former Christian music singer, Katy Hudson).

Next week I am hoping another song that I submitted will be in the jukebox and I can rate that (my current favorite song!) What’s your favorite song? How about you request it on Resolution Radio?! I do shows twice a week at 9 p.m. EDT every Friday and Sunday. And as always, if you want my opinion on a specific song; please email me between now and Monday, and I will add it to my list! – DJ Lilly (hewitt_fanatic@musician.org)

Selena Gomez announces track listing for ‘A Year Without Rain’

Standard

Selena Gomez has announced the track listing for her upcoming album, A Year Without Rain, which is scheduled to drop Sept. 21.

MTV reports that the teen star made the announcement on her Facebook page writing: “Hey Everyone– I wanted to share with you the official tracks off my upcoming album ‘A Year Without Rain’ as well as the bonus features on the deluxe album. I can’t wait for you all to hear the album.”

The official track list includes: her current single “Round & Round,” the title track “A Year Without Rain,” “Rock God,” “Off the Chain,” “Summer’s Not Hot,” “Intuition,” “Spotlight,” “Ghost of You,” “Sick of You” and “Live Like There’s No Tomorrow.”

MTV reports that the deluxe version of the album will also include two remixes of “A Year Without Rain,” as well as a remix of “Round & Round.”

In a recent interview Gomez talked about the upcoming album saying “[‘A Year Without Rain’ is] basically one of my favorite songs on the record. It’s kind of got a more feel-good dance beat and feel. I love it. It’s different; [it] kind of shows my growth of my music,” she said. “There’s a song called ‘Intuition’ that’s one of my favorites. The message is basically every decision that you regret or second-guess, [just] do it [anyway]. I love that message so much.”

Gomez’s announcement gave no information or detail on the rumored collaborations with artists such as Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and Demi Lovato.

Selena Gomez forced to cancel appearances after straining vocal chords

Standard

Disney Star Selena Gomez has suffered a vocal injury, causing her to cancel several appearances, according to a report from Billboard.com.

Among the cancellations are appearances at state fairs in both Delaware and Ohio because of strained vocal chords.

In a statement released to the AP Gomez said: “I am extremely disappointed to cancel these shows. My fans mean the world to me and I was so excited to perform for them.”

Billboard reports that full refunds will be given to Delaware State Fair ticket holders, while the show in Ohio was rescheduled for November.

The teen star is currently hard at work on her second album. The release is titled A Year Without Rain, and is slated for a Sept. 28 release. The album’s first single “Round & Round” has already hit the airwaves (and has been rated by hundreds of HitPredictor members in the jukebox!)

Katy Perry continues her reign on top of Hot 100

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg has held on to the throne at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth straight week. Billboard reports the summer anthem has also earned the Airplay Gainer award for the third straight week.

It will be fun to see if she can pull of another week as Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” from his new album Recovery stormed the chart coming in at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Will it continue to gain steam next week to usurp “California Gurls”?

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher featuring will.i.am
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars
  • At No. 6, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 7, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner
  • At No. 8, “Your Love Is My Drug,” Ke$ha
  • At No. 9, “Alejandro,” Lady Gaga
  • At No. 10, “Whatcha Say,” Jason Derulo

Other notable debuts in the Hot 100 this week are songs that many of our HitPredictor members have recently voted on including Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “Round & Round,” which debuted at No. 24, Maroon 5’s “Misery” which came in at No. 44, and Sara Bareilles’ “King of Anything” which came in at No. 59.

Do you have any of these songs in a current playlist? If so, which ones?

U.K. and U.S. musical performers grounded thanks to volcanic ash cloud

Standard

Over the weekend, several U.K. musical acts were unable to fly to the Coachella Music Festival to perform because of the volcanic ash spewing from Iceland. Among those performers who were unable to make it to Coachella were Gary Numan, the Cribs, Frightened Rabbit, and Bad Lieutenant.

With flight restrictions spreading further across Europe to include Frankfurt, Paris, and Amsterdam, several U.S. acts are also finding themselves grounded as the volcanic ash cloud continues to hamper travel.

Billboard.com is reporting that among the acts stuck in mid-promotional campaign or on tour include Miley Cyrus, who was scheduled to promote her film “The Long Song” in London, and has now canceled, while Selena Gomez whose brand new single “Naturally” debuted at No. 7 on the U.K. singles chart finds herself stranded in Europe.

Billboard also reports that Usher and Adam Lambert are both unable to carry out promotional plans they had this week in Europe, while the Features, a U.S. indie-rock band has decided to postpone its tour of the U.K. until early this summer.

How long do you think the volcanic ash cloud will continue to hold these artists hostage?
