P!nk Debuts Emotional Single ‘Try’

Standard

The second single from P!nk’s newest studio album, The Truth About Love, has been released and it’s quite different than P!nk’s party rock tunes. This is more of a fiery emotional ballad about tricky situations in love.

“Where there is desire, there is gonna be a flame/ Where there is a flame, someone’s bound to get burned/ But just because it burns doesn’t mean you’re gonna die/ You’ve gotta get up and try try try,” so the pop punk songstress sings powerfully in the chorus.

P!nk’s Newest Single Leaks, Other Track on HitPredictor Chart

Standard

Pink’s party track “Here Comes The Weekend” featuring Eminem comes from her Truth About Love album, which leaked this weekend but was officially released yesterday, September 18, 2012. With all of Pink’s songs about romance, heartbreak, bloodshed, and tears, she claims to be in a state of Zen these days and she has her 1-year-old daughter, Willow, to thank.

“I used to be really dark. Now, I wake up and check her pulse and make sure she’s not having a temperature. And then we dance. And we dance, and we dance, and we dance,” she says. “Then, we go on bike rides. And we dance some more. Everything’s a song. It’s just a lot more fun. I guess that’s how the record reflects where I am right now. I’m just having a lot more fun than I ever have.”

Meanwhile her current top 10 hit, “Blow Me” is a HitPredictor at Rhythmic this week.

Have you downloaded Pink’s album? Can she make a come-back after being off the music scene for so long?

Jessie J Quickly Gaining Worldwide Rock Star Status

Standard

It seldom occurs where one’s career is a matter of life and death. Already established Brit star, Jessie J may have one of those careers, however.

“We finished a tour stop in Bristol [England] last night and there were more fans than I’ve seen in my life. For two hours, they tried to sneak on our bus, touching and grabbing me, begging me to sign their pictures, their badges — and their boobs,” she says with a laugh. “One guy knocked a sign into me; I begged him not to kill me.”

The previous night at a show in Glasgow, Scotland, the screams reached such a decibel that the venue’s sound system shorted. “Onstage,” she says, “they kept throwing things at me — notes and messages and God knows what.”

And these are just tales from European gigs. Although nothing this obscene has happened in the U.S. yet, it could. Jessie J, aka Jessica Cornish, 23, has been gaining in popularity since January when her “Do It Like a Dude” single reached No. 2 on the British singles chart and her B.o.B. assisted “Price Tag” reached No. 1 on the singles chart and get this… the top 40 in 18 nations.

Now she’s released her album Who We Are. It dropped Tuesday (Apr. 12) in the United States. Her single “Price Tag,” produced by Dr. Luke, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart on March 26 and is No. 50 with a bullet on the Hot 100 and No. 26 on Pop Songs. The track was iTunes’ Music Video of the Week in February. And Jessie J was the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” on March 12 — the first artist to appear on the show before an album release — and performances are on deck for “The View,” “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” “Today” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

“She has the substance to become the next big pop star in the U.S.,” Sirius XM VP of music programming Kid Kelly says. “Her sound is noticeably different from the current crop of female icons like Lady GagaP!nk and Britney Spears. Jessie J is absolutely a standout artist.”

Crown Management’s Sarah Stennett, Jessie J‘s manager, says of her client: “What you see is what you get. She hasn’t changed since I met her two-and-a-half years ago.” Stennett said that the type of honesty Jessie J put outs, endears people to her and makes you want to root for her to win.

So far, all signs are pointing in that winning direction.

What do you think of Jessie J? Is she the next worldwide pop icon?

Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’ Dominates Digital Songs, Climbs Billboard Hot 100

Standard

Don’t worry Lady Gaga is still No. 1 on Hot 100 but since that is not new news, I’m angling Katy Perry this week! Her new track, “E.T.” that features Kanye West, soared up the digital songs chart from 5 to 1 and is currently No. 3 on the Hot 100 and earned the digital gainer of the week. Woo hoo for Katy!

No. 2 is still being held by Cee-Lo Green’s “F**k You (Forget You)” for the fourth consecutive week. And Rihanna’s “S&M” dips 3-4 but claims the Hot 100’s Airplay Gainer award.

The rest of the top 10 Hot 100 goes like this:

  • No. 5 – Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor”
  • No. 6 – P!nk’s “F**kin’ Perfect”
  • No. 7 – Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”
  • No. 8 – “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E
  • No. 9 – Britney Spears’ “Till the World Ends”

Say Whaaat?! Only 1 New Song in the Top 10 of Billboard Hot 100

Standard

Lady Gaga holds the No. 1 spot for the fourth consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Born This Way.” Many other songs are also in the same places as their is only one new song in the Top 10.

Cee Lo is still holding onto the No. 2 spot with his single “F**k You” but Bruno Mars’, who was number 3 last week, slides to 6 this week with “Grenade.”

Rihanna progressed up replacing Mars’ at number 3 with her new track “S&M” passing P!nk, who holds strong at No. 4 singing her “F**kin’ Perfect” single. Get it?!

The digital gainer goes to Jennifer Lopez‘s single ft. Pitbull titled “On The Floor” which she premiered the video for on ‘American Idol’ last week. Maybe it was all the Idol fans but for some reason this songs took leaps to grab the digital gainer and the No. 5 place on the chart.

Two spots below Lopez, Ke$ha‘s “Blow” blasts 11-7. The second single from “Cannibal,” following the No. 1 “We R Who We R.” Ke$ha has now sent all six of her singles as a lead artist into the Hot 100’s top 10 and this is the only new song in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Ke$ha beat out Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor” who was at No. 10 last week.

Katy Perry places two songs in the top 10 for a second consecutive week. “E.T.,” featuring Kanye West, holds at No. 8 and “Firework” falls 6-10.

In between Perry’s songs, Enrique Iglesias’ “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You),” featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E, slips 7-9.

Adele Still Holding on to No. 1 Spot Atop Billboard 200

Brit star Adele holds on to her No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with 168,000 copies sold this week.

“With a little over 520,000 sold in two weeks, “21” has swiftly become the year’s best selling album — and the only set to shift more than a half-million units thus far. It started last week at No. 1 with 352,000 — immediately ranking it as the year’s second biggest seller behind Mumford & Sons’ “Sigh No More.” With another 168,000 this week, “21” jumps ahead of “Sigh” by 74,000,” reports Billboard.

Coming in a close second is Marsha Ambrosius with her debut solo set, “Late Nights & Early Mornings” (96,000).

Lady Gaga Holds Strong at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

Standard

A week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and still going strong. Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” refused to relinquish the title of number one to the other Grammy Awards-fueled contenders.

Billboard reports that “the festivities’ main beneficiary is Cee Lo Green, whose raucous rendition of “F**k You (Forget You),” with guest vocals by Gwyneth Paltrow and a backing band of Muppets, spurs a 178% gain for the track to 412,000 downloads and the No. 2 standing on the digital sales tally. The song’s improvement is enough to earn the title the Greatest Gainer/Digital award on the Hot 100, where it jumps 7-2.”

Here is the rest of this week’s top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100:

  • No. 3 – Bruno Mars’ “Grenade”
  • No. 4 – Dr. Dre’s “I Need A Doctor” ft. Eminem and Skylar Grey

  • No. 6 – Pink’s “F**kin’ Perfect”

Lady Gaga Grabs 1,000th No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

Standard

I said yesterday when I reported the Billboard 200 that I would be back today with full details on Lady Gaga not only getting her new song “Born This Way” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart but picking up the milestone of that No. 1 being the 1,000th No. 1 that Billboard has doled out since they started charting data 53 years ago.

Well I am back and I’ve got the scoop! As well as the rest of the top 10 on this week’s Hot 100.

Gaga tells Billboard of the milestone, “It is a tremendous honor, to be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard…I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career. I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to ‘Born This Way,’ ” Gaga adds. “[It] has been so life changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers…I couldn’t be more blessed to have the fans that I have.”

Speaking of Gaga, did any of you see her outfit on ‘Good Morning America’ this a.m.? The Lady says it was inspired by a condom to promote HIV/AIDS awareness. Whoa, that’s all I’m gonna say about that.

In other news, the fight between Katy Perry’s Firework” and Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” continues. This week Katy Perry is in the No. 2 spot beating out Mars as he slides to number three.

Anyway, here is the rest of the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 for this week:

  • No. 4 – “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa
  • No. 5 – “F**kin’ Perfect” by P!nk (this week’s airplay gainer)
  • No. 6 – Tonight (I’m Loving You) by Enrique Iglesias ft. Ludacris and DJ Frank E
  • No. 7 – “F**k You (Forget You)” by Cee-Lo Green
  • No. 8 – “S&M” by Rihanna
  • No. 9 – “The Time (Dirty Bit)” by The Black Eyed Peas
  • No. 10 – “Hold It Against Me” by Britney Spears

‘Now 37’ Shakes to the Top of Billboard 200

Standard

This week’s Billboard 200 starts off with “Now That’s What I Call Music 37” in the top spot with 151,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Clearly it was the Valentine’s Day shopping that pushed this one over the edge and other albums as well.

In the No. 2 spot we have Mumford & Sons’ “Sigh No More” with 49,000 in sales. This figure is up 99% since last week. According to Billboard, “it’s a new chart peak and the set’s second-best sales week. Not bad for an album that came out exactly a year ago today (Feb. 16, 2010). The majority of “Sigh’s” gain can be attributed to a surge in digital sales on Sunday night (13), thanks to the quartet’s performance on the Grammy Awards. The Glassnote Records act was also nominated for best new artist, which was presented during the broadcast.”

Here is the rest of the top 10 on this week’s Billboard 200:

  • No. 3 – Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0”
  • No. 4 – Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday”
  • No. 5 – P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!”
  • No. 6 – Bruno Mars’ “Doo Wops & Hooligans”
  • No. 7 – Eminem’s “Recovery”
  • No. 8 – Rihanna’s “Loud”
  • No. 9 – Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party”
  • No. 10 – Justin Bieber’s “My Worlds Acoustic”

Notables: Justin Bieber is riding high this week with 2 albums on the Billboard 200, his new movie “Never Say Never” in theaters, multiple Grammy nominations, and a performance on the show with mentor Usher.

Billboard forgot to include last week that Minaj was the first female rapper to top the Billboard 200 since way back on Oct. 2, 1999, when Eve bowed atop the list with “Let There Be Eve.”

Believe it or not, but P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!” is her second-highest charting album. Of her five earlier albums, only her “Funhouse” set has been higher, when it debuted and peaked at No. 2 (Nov. 15, 2008).

Even though I’m going to post the Billboard Hot 100 tomorrow, I think it must be said that Lady Gaga is claiming the top spot on that chart with “Born This Way” being the 1,000th No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Billboard started charting. That’s a milestone! I will tell y’all more about Gaga’s reaction tomorrow but it’s breaking news that it happened right now.

Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” Wins No. 1 spot on Hot 100

Standard

Consider it a consolation prize for the Steelers not winning the Super Bowl as Wiz Khalifa wins the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with his song “Black and Yellow” jumping up from 4 to 1.

“Black and Yellow” outshines Bruno Mar’s “Grenade” (1-2) after four nonconsecutive weeks at the top. “Firework” by Katy Perry holds strong at No. 3.

It was predicted that P!nk’s “F**kin’ Perfect” would be in the No. 1 spot this week nut instead it dips to No. 4.

Here are rest of the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100:

  • No. 5 – Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor,” featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey

Nicki Minaj Picks Up First No. 1 on Billboard 200

Standard

Nicki Minaj crowns the Billboard 200 albums chart for her first time with 45,000 in sales, since her “Pink Friday” debuted 11 weeks ago. Her record debuted at No. 2 and has spent it’s chart life in the top 10 only.

“Minaj’s patient wait for her turn at No. 1 is a rare sight. For the most part, an album is only No. 1 because it debuted there. It’s unusual for a set to climb to the top. Case in point: in 2010, there were 30 albums that hit No. 1, but just one — Lil Wayne’s “I Am Not A Human Being” — actually rose to the top. Wayne debuted at No. 2 off of just downloads, then fell to No. 16 the next week, only to reach No. 1 the next once the CD version of the album dropped,” claims Billboard.

Rock band Red debuts in the runner-up slot this week with its “Until We Have Faces” set, and at No. 1 on the Christian Albums chart. It bows with 43,000 — a bigger start than the 39,000 that greeted its second album, 2009’s “Innocence & Instinct,” upon its No. 15 entry on the Billboard 200.

Here are the rest of this week’s top 10 on the Billboard 200:

  • No. 3 – Ricky Martin’s “Musica + Alma + Sexo” with 32,000
  • No. 4 – Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” with 32,000
  • No. 5 – Rihanna’s “Loud” with 29,000
  • No. 6 – Kidz Bop 19 with 28,000
  • No. 7 – Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” with 27,000
  • No. 8 – Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” with 27,000
  • No. 9 – P!nk’s “Greatest Hits … So Far!!!” with 25,000
  • No. 10 – Eminem’s “Recovery”

It is a very tight top 10 this week as numbers 3-10 are only separated by 6,696 units!
