First up, Travie McCoy had a great solo debut and now he’s back with his group, Gym Class Heroes and their upcoming album, The Papercut Chronicles. The first single teams Travie and Maroon 5 with their frontman and “The Voice” winning coach Adam Levine“Stereo Hearts” is this weeks HitPredictor at Mainstream Top 40.

Planet Pit is the 6th album by Pitbull and it features all-star producers like Dr Luke and David Guetta. “Rain Over Me”, featuring Marc Anthony, is the 3rd single from the album. Hesperia, California’s New Boyz have a 3rd single from Too Cool to Care called “Better With The Lights Off,” and it features Chris Brown. “Lighters” by Bad Meets Evil is from the album Hell: The Sequel. It’s one of the hottest singles at Mainstream Top 40 and this week it’s a Rhythmic HitPredictor.

Gavin Degraw’s next album Sweeter will released on September 6th, and will feature tracks co-written with a number of artists. The first single “Not Over You” was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder, and it’s now a Hot AC HitPredictor.

Speaking of Ryan Tedder, he’s had a busy year. He’s produced the Mainstream Top 40 HitPredictor for Gym Class Heroes and he’s working on new material due in 2012. His 4th single from One Republic’s Waking Up album, “Good Life” is a HitPredictor this week at Mainstream AC.

Brooks and Dunn were one of the biggest Country duo’s of all time, and both members are successful solo acts. Even though he had singles out in the early 80s, before Brooks and Dunn formed, Ronnie Dunn just released his debut, self-titled, solo album. “Cost of Livin” is the 2nd single from it, and it’s a Country HitPredictor this week.

After six years without a new studio album, Sacramento Alternative rockers Cake recorded Showroom of Compassion in 2010. The album is grounded in Cake’s unique style of alternative rock, combining droll, often esoteric lyrics, rife with word play and syncopation, catchy distorted guitar riffs, complex bass patterns, Moog, and prominent use of trumpet. “Long Time” is the 2nd single from that album and it’s a HitPredictor this week at Alternative.

Before Breaking Benjamin, Ben Burnley was a solo performer. He later came up with the band’s name, “Breaking Benjamin” after doing a performance of a Nirvana cover. At the end of the performance, Ben knocked over and cracked a microphone he had borrowed. The owner of the microphone walked onto the stage and said, “I’d like to thank Benjamin for breaking my f**ing microphone.” Originally created for the video game Halo 2, and later appearing on the band’s 2004, So Cold EP, “Blow Me Away” now has a remix version slated to be included on the band’s Greatest Hits album, Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin. It’s an Active HitPredictor this week.

More Info on Xtina, Maroon 5 Collaboration

Standard

Last week, we reported that “The Voice” coaches, Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine of Maroon 5 had collaborated on a song together. (Get up to speed here.) Well now more information is being released about the single!

Aguilera is featured with Levine and his band on the tune “Moves Like Jagger,” which will be released next week on iTunes. So it’s not just Levine getting in on the action, it’s the whole Maroon 5 band.

Maroon 5 and Aguilera will perform the track on the June 21 episode of “The Voice.” The studio version will be available following the show, NBC announced on last week’s show.

The tune was recorded in Los Angeles last month and Levine likes the collab. He said it was “great” to work with Aguilera. She, too feels the same saying that it was a “wonderful opportunity.” At least the feelings are mutual, contrary to how they treat each other on “The Voice” as they tease and fight over contestants.

The song has been described as classic Maroon 5 “power pop” with an upbeat tune.

Are you excited to hear “Move Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera?!

Super Bowl Sunday: Music Review

Standard

I thought I would do a special Sunday night post just because of the Super Bowl and all the music that surrounds the event. The Black Eyed Peas just got finished performing during halftime of the big game. Usher and Slash confirmed rumors of being surprise guests by also making appearances.

The Peas did snippets of their songs “Where Is The Love,” “Boom Boom Pow,” “Pump It,” and “Let’s Get It Started.” Fergie then joined Slash, guitarist from Guns n Roses, Slash, for a rendition of “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Fergie did her best Axl Rose impression while singing the famous lyrics, and although I think her voice sounded a bit rough. They did prove that the group was performing their own vocals, which does not happen often in huge performances such as the Super Bowl, so I do applaud them for that. Usher also rocked the house with his smooth dance moves and pristine white performing his “O.M.G.”

Before the game, Lea Michele, from “Glee” sang “America The Beautiful” and it was, in fact, beautiful. Christina Aguilera then took the stage for the National Anthem. I could have done without X-tina’s butchering of the song that represent’s our country. The almost minute long tune, was turned into twice that length with Aguilera drawing out every note way longer than appropriate. To me, it was more yelling than singing and her voice sounded very rough when she tried to belt out the end. She was hardly drowned out by the jets soaring overhead, barely. Was it just me?

Way before the game started, in Tailgate central, the Super Bowl had set Keith Urban and Maroon 5 to perform. Both guys made great performances. Urban performed his hit “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me” and a new song from his just-released album, Get Closer, entitled “You Gonna Fly.” I thought both were perfectly sung tunes and Urban had just the right amount of excitement saying to the crowd, “We’re at the Super Bowl, Baby!”

Adam Levine, and the guys from Maroon 5, sung “Misery” and “Never Gonna Leave This Bed,” both from their newest album, Hands All Over. Some says that Levine’s voice is too high and feminine but I thought they did a nice job and the crowd was definitely into it.

Over all, I liked the Super Bowl performances. Critics are claiming that the Black Eyed Peas didn’t really sing and it wasn’t that musically talented, but it was a production, with the Peas in lighted space suits. If you look at it from a performance stand point, they definitely did that. And that’s what it was meant to be.

What did you think of the Super Bowl performances?

Polar extremes means it’s a love or hate week!

Standard

Guest blogger and HitPredictor member Nina C. reports on the new music finds and what she liked and didn’t like in the jukebox each week at HitPredictor. Many of these songs are still available so make check them out and let us know whether you agree or disagree! And, make sure you check out Nina’s other blog, TwilightNera’s Entertainment Hotspot for other news in the entertainment world!

The HitPredictor jukebox was filled this week with songs that were neither good nor bad, but simply just not memorable. When I heard them they just didn’t do anything for me. So when I heard songs that really did have an effect on me, they were either really good or really bad.

One of the good songs I heard was Mariah Carey’s “Oh Santa.” I was a big fan of Mariah’s first Christmas CD and was glad to hear that this song could become another Christmas classic for her.

A song I thought was really terrible was “Well, Well, Well” by Duffy. It reminded me of the terrible song in jukebox last week “It’s My Party” by Amy Winehouse. Her voice sounded like a chipmunk and it was really annoying.

I really like the collaboration between Maroon 5 and Lady Antebellum. When I first heard that they were doing a song together I honestly could not see it. However, “Out of Goodbyes” is a really nice bittersweet love song.

Collide” by Kid Rock feat. Sheryl Crow just didn’t do anything for me.  I liked their collaboration “Picture” that was done many years ago, but this song just wasn’t as good. I was really disappointed in Nelly Furtado’s “The Night is Young.” Furtado used to be so great when she was more indie pop, but when she crossed over more into mainstream I think she lost some of her musical talent.

“Rabiosa” by Shakira feat. Pitbull was a pretty good dance song, the two Latin artists work really well together. Crystal Bowersox had another good song in the jukebox called “Lonely.” It followed her routine of good lyrics and good vocals.

Were there any songs in the jukebox that sounded really good to you this week or was it a neutral week for you as well?

Happy rating!

Nina goes 50-50 on the week; see who she liked and who she, well, didn’t

Standard

This week was a half and half week for me at HitPredictor; there were just as many bad songs as there were good.  I usually like to start off with my favorite for the week but I honestly did not have one song I felt passionate about. I did like the song “What If” by Jason Derulo.  He has had some good pop songs but this song had a little more substance than usual and it made for a better song. I enjoyed “Move That Body” by Nelly feat. Akon and T-Pain. This collaboration is filled with hit makers and it really makes for a good club song. I think it will be a big hit.

There were other good songs in the jukebox as well. “We Radiate” by Goldfrapp was a pretty good dance tune. “Still Here” by Superchick was a fun pop song. Underwear” by KaraMel was fun and had a good pop beat at first, but then it just got so poppy it was annoying. “Love 2012” by 30H!3 was just annoying techno music through and through. I’ve only liked a few of their songs and this is just not one of them.

“Sweet Serendipity” by Lee DeWyze is a very catchy song with good lyrics. It has a really good flow to it. “We R Who We R” leaves me even more confused about why people would ever listen to Ke$ha. The lyrics are terrible and her voice is just so freaking annoying.  “Pretty Girl Rock” by Keri Hilson had a great beat, a little pretentious but it’s a good song in the end. “Give a Little More” by Maroon 5 is one of the best songs on their album and should definitely be their next hit. I really love this group because they honestly never let me down.

So that’s it people. What were your favorites and total dislikes for the week?

Hey HP!

Well, it’s been another week of good and bad music. Let’s just start with the bad, get it over with, and work our way up. I did not like the new Nelly song, “Move That Body” (feat. TPain and Akon). I thought it was an awful follow-up single to “Just A Dream” (which was an awesome song). I also did not like “Love 2012” by 3OH!3 I actually haven’t liked many of their songs since “Don’t Trust Me.” I also didn’t like Maroon 5’s new single, “Give a Little More, I expect better from them. Another song I really didn’t like was the new Ke$ha single, “We R Who We R. Guess what, it sounds exactly like all her other songs (and the lyrics are really stupid).

I usually really like Jason Derulo songs and I thought “What If” was okay. I thought the new Buckcherry song, “Dead,” was okay too. I also liked K’Naan’s “Bang Bang, very catchy! I think Keri Hilson’s “Pretty Girl Rock” will be a hit; but I personally wasn’t a big fan of the song. I really liked the Disturbed song “Animal” in the jukebox; it was nice to hear something new from them. It was also nice to hear new music from Seal, with his new single “If I’m Any Closer.” He seems to be trying to go back to his better days (“Kiss from a Rose” era). Don’t worry about the past few years dude, you are married to Heidi Klum = you still win!

I liked Lee DeWyze’s new single, “Sweet Serendipity” – and that’s coming from a Crystal Bowersox fan! I like his sound in this song and I like the lyrics. I loved the new Jewel single, “No Good in Goodbye” and I hope it becomes a huge hit. I also really liked Superchick’s “Still Here.” I have always loved their music and I thought this song had to be in the jukebox.

That’s all for this week; but tune in next week for the review of the new Taryn Manning single, “Spotlight”, which Taryn is sending to Resolution Radio TODAY! I will also have plenty of other songs to rate, and things to say! If you want to get to know me better, shoot me an e-mail at hewitt_fanatic@musician.org! New music Wednesday – which big name artists need your feedback this week?!

Standard

Yay for hump day – happy Wednesday! How about some brand new Keri Hilson, Maroon 5, Jack Johnson, and Nelly as we head into the weekend slide?!  We have four brand new singles from these artists in the jukebox ready for you to rate right now, so have a listen to the new tracks listed below and let us know what you think of their hit potential!

Keri Hilson has released a hotly debated new track called “Pretty Girl Rock” as the second single from her new studio album No Boys Allowed. In this track Hilson talks about how pretty she is; but explains “it’s not meant to be vain … I want everybody to feel like they can do ‘Pretty Girl Rock;’ it’s like the hair brush in the mirror, don’t hate me ‘cause I’m beautiful, ‘cause you are. Everybody is beautiful. I want everyone to be able to sing that record.” So what say you HitPredictor members – do you want to sing along to “Pretty Girl Rock”?

“At or With Me” is a new track from Jack Johnson’s To The Sea, which was released earlier this summer. “At or With Me” is a fun, up-tempo track that has Johnson half-mocking himself as he asks “are they laughing at or with me.” He also made a hilarious video with Andy Samberg of SNL fame to accompany the track. Do you think this is a song that can gain traction on the radio and be a potential hit?

In line with up-beat songs is Maroon 5’s second single release from Hands All Over called “Give A Little More.” This funky jam is a catchy danceable track more in line with the pop-driven rhythm that made Maroon 5 popular. Does this track have you dancing along every time you hear it? Is it a song you wish you heard more often on the radio? Let us know what you think with your vote!

Nelly pulled in some help for his new single “Move That Body,” which has both T-Pain & Akon making a guest appearance. This Dr. Luke-produced track is the newest single from the rapper’s new album 5.0 coming out Nov. 16. “Move That Body” as the title implies is a straight-up dance song that features a snapping beat – but is it enough to get you moving? And, is it a track you think has the potential to be a hit?

As you check out these new tracks in the HitPredictor jukebox make sure you take note of any hidden songs you come across, and submit them by 3 p.m. Eastern Thursday, Oct. 14 for some bonus points!

Kenny Chesney lands on top of Billboard 200 with sixth No. 1 album

Standard

Kenny Chesney is back on top of the Billboard 200 with his new release Hemingway’s Whiskey, which sold 183,000 units in its debut week – more than Chesney’s last album, Lucky Old Sun which also bowed at No. 1 in 2008 but with fewer sales – 176,000.

Billboard reports that this is Chesney’s sixth No. 1 album, which is second for most No. 1s among country acts to only Garth Brooks, who has logged a total of eight.  In total, Chesney has logged nine top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, with only one not making it into the top 10 – his 2003 holiday album All I Want For Christmas Is a Really Good Tan.

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne debuts at No. 2 with his digital-only release of I Am Not A Human Being selling 110,000 units (physical release to come Oct. 12). This is the rapper’s eight top 10 album, following the No. 2 debut of his Rebirth earlier this year. Billboard reports that Weezy’s spot at No. 2 is only the second set to ever reach the top two slots on the chart in a digital-only format – the previous was the charity compilation Hope for Haiti released in January.

The rest of the Billboard 200 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, You Get What You Give, Zac Brown Band, 70,000
  • At No. 4, The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted, Gucci Mane, 60,000
  • At No. 5, Recovery, Eminem, 59,000

Among favorite new finds is Maroon 5’s new single “Misery”

Standard

Guest blogger and HitPredictor member Nina C. reports on the new music finds and what she liked and didn’t like in the HitPredictor jukebox last week. Many of these songs are still available so make check them out and let us know whether you agree or disagree! And, make sure you check out Nina’s other blog,TwilightNera’s Entertainment Hotspot for other news in the entertainment world.

Hello to all HitPredictor music lovers!

The last two weeks have produced a lot of diverse and exciting new songs in the HitPredictor jukebox. The most exciting thing for me personally was hearing new Maroon 5! Their new song “Misery” has already hit the radio and I also saw them perform it live on the “Today” show. They sounded great and the song sounds great! I was so glad they didn’t sell out like so many artist we’re seeing right now. They kept their funky/rock sound just like the fans like it, and as usual you heard it first on HitPredictor!

There were many bluesy singers and smooth voices filling the jukebox last week as well. Leela James‘ “Tell me You love Me” had really bluesy vocals and down home music. “Kandi” by One Eskimo also had that coffee house feel. More of these songs should be played on the radio – every day. I mean “California Gurls” is nice right, but you gotta move on.

The only unimpressive genre in the jukebox these last two weeks had to be the pop music. Don’t get me wrong I’m a huge pop fan but in my opinion these artists weren’t the best. “Power” which is supposed to be Kanye West’s return song, really is quite horrible. I would have expected a lot stronger and well … humbler song as his return. With his crazy antics I doubt he’s ever going to be able to make a full recovery.  Kylie Minogue is back to her strictly techno music (which is only good at the club with a couple of drinks).  And David Guetta’s “Memories” has hopeless looping lyrics. Let’s get back to the good stuff though!

There were some Caribbean sounding jams in the jukebox such as, “Wavin’ Flag: by Knaan feat. Will. I.Am and David Guetta. The song has a fun vibe and fun music with great lyrics.  Justin James also brought a Caribbean feel and a smooth voice mix in his new track. Did you notice all the smooth crooners there were these last two weeks? Most of them came from smooth rockers such as the lead singer of Vampire Weekend and Second Hand Serenade. Songs very nice for the ladies I might add.

Lastly, I got some pleasant country music surprises. Train’s “ Hey, Soul Sister” got a country remix that sounds great! “Undo it” by Carrie Underwood is another fierce country song too and I love it!

What were your faves from these awesome two weeks? And don’t forget to play the awesome Twitter trivia game and take part in the mid-week contest, every week with great hidden songs (and points!)

Katy Perry continues her reign on top of Hot 100

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg has held on to the throne at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth straight week. Billboard reports the summer anthem has also earned the Airplay Gainer award for the third straight week.

It will be fun to see if she can pull of another week as Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” from his new album Recovery stormed the chart coming in at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Will it continue to gain steam next week to usurp “California Gurls”?

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher featuring will.i.am
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars
  • At No. 6, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 7, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner
  • At No. 8, “Your Love Is My Drug,” Ke$ha
  • At No. 9, “Alejandro,” Lady Gaga
  • At No. 10, “Whatcha Say,” Jason Derulo

Other notable debuts in the Hot 100 this week are songs that many of our HitPredictor members have recently voted on including Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “Round & Round,” which debuted at No. 24, Maroon 5’s “Misery” which came in at No. 44, and Sara Bareilles’ “King of Anything” which came in at No. 59.

Do you have any of these songs in a current playlist? If so, which ones?
