First up, Travie McCoy had a great solo debut and now he’s back with his group, Gym Class Heroes and their upcoming album, The Papercut Chronicles. The first single teams Travie and Maroon 5 with their frontman and “The Voice” winning coach Adam Levine“Stereo Hearts” is this weeks HitPredictor at Mainstream Top 40.

Planet Pit is the 6th album by Pitbull and it features all-star producers like Dr Luke and David Guetta. “Rain Over Me”, featuring Marc Anthony, is the 3rd single from the album. Hesperia, California’s New Boyz have a 3rd single from Too Cool to Care called “Better With The Lights Off,” and it features Chris Brown. “Lighters” by Bad Meets Evil is from the album Hell: The Sequel. It’s one of the hottest singles at Mainstream Top 40 and this week it’s a Rhythmic HitPredictor.

Gavin Degraw’s next album Sweeter will released on September 6th, and will feature tracks co-written with a number of artists. The first single “Not Over You” was co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder, and it’s now a Hot AC HitPredictor.

Speaking of Ryan Tedder, he’s had a busy year. He’s produced the Mainstream Top 40 HitPredictor for Gym Class Heroes and he’s working on new material due in 2012. His 4th single from One Republic’s Waking Up album, “Good Life” is a HitPredictor this week at Mainstream AC.

Brooks and Dunn were one of the biggest Country duo’s of all time, and both members are successful solo acts. Even though he had singles out in the early 80s, before Brooks and Dunn formed, Ronnie Dunn just released his debut, self-titled, solo album. “Cost of Livin” is the 2nd single from it, and it’s a Country HitPredictor this week.

After six years without a new studio album, Sacramento Alternative rockers Cake recorded Showroom of Compassion in 2010. The album is grounded in Cake’s unique style of alternative rock, combining droll, often esoteric lyrics, rife with word play and syncopation, catchy distorted guitar riffs, complex bass patterns, Moog, and prominent use of trumpet. “Long Time” is the 2nd single from that album and it’s a HitPredictor this week at Alternative.

Before Breaking Benjamin, Ben Burnley was a solo performer. He later came up with the band’s name, “Breaking Benjamin” after doing a performance of a Nirvana cover. At the end of the performance, Ben knocked over and cracked a microphone he had borrowed. The owner of the microphone walked onto the stage and said, “I’d like to thank Benjamin for breaking my f**ing microphone.” Originally created for the video game Halo 2, and later appearing on the band’s 2004, So Cold EP, “Blow Me Away” now has a remix version slated to be included on the band’s Greatest Hits album, Shallow Bay: The Best of Breaking Benjamin. It’s an Active HitPredictor this week.

Cake Debuts ‘Showroom of Compassion’ at No. 1 on Billboard 200

Standard

The Billboard 200 could not look more different this week. Everything has changed! Ready for an update?

First, literally – is Cake with their album, which was only released on 1-11-11, Showroom of Compassion. “The band bows atop the Billboard 200 with just 44,000. That’s not only the smallest frame for a No. 1 album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991 (beating a record set only last week), but it’s also obviously the tiniest figure racked up by a No. 1-debuting album,” reports Billboard.

Who would have thought that Cake — a band that many may only remember for its 1998 No. 1 Alternative Songs hit, “Never There” — would notch not just its first top 10 album in 2011, but also its first No. 1?

For the No. 2 spot we have another album that dropped on 1-11-11. It’s Cage The Elephant‘s Thank You, Happy Birthday. Cage was our feature artist last week, and y’all predicted their song “Shake Me Down” would be in the top 10, so it doesn’t surprise us that they have the No. 2 album this week.

As for the rest of the Billboard 200, it goes a little something like this:

3. Taylor Swift’s Speak Now
4. Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops and Hooligans
5. Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday
6.
Country Strong Soundtrack
7. Rihanna’s Loud
8. Steel Magnolia’s Steel Magnolia
9. Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More
10.
Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Wow, there were so many changes this week. I’m really surprised that Cake managed to take the top spot even with the lowest selling numbers in SoundScan history! What surprises you about this week’s chart?

DJ Lilly gives us her picks!

Standard

I realized the other day that I never really tell you anything about myself. All you really need to know is that I am old enough to have grown up with boy bands blasting out of my stereo and young enough not to be blasting Neil Diamond or Wham; and that I am a huge fan of Christina Aguilera, Nick Lachey, TLC, Lacuna Coil, and Kelly Clarkson. My fave singer, since I was a kid, has been Shanice and I even got to meet her when I was 15 (along with Martina McBride and Olivia Newton-John). I also have mentioned in past blogs that I love Rihanna!

So I noticed that I have been kinda negative in my reviews lately, (mostly because I didn’t like the songs that were in the jukebox) but most of my reviews this week were positive (uh oh). I liked the Kelsey Rey songs that were in the jukebox last week, and I liked the “No Artist” songs that were in the jukebox this week as well. I have no idea who it is; but I am thinking they are boy-band related. I liked the Adam Watts and Yearling songs that were in the jukebox too. I also liked “You Are”, by Jason Castro and “Raise Your Glass” by Pink. I actually saw a tweet, by Ashley Tisdale from earlier today (Monday, Oct. 11), saying that she loves that song. I think Pink has another hit song on her hands.

It was nice to hear Five Finger Death Punch in the jukebox, we need more hard rock in there (except it wasn’t too hard this week). I have never really cared for Cake and their new single, “Sick Of You” still didn’t make me a fan. I really liked Matisse and Akon’s song “Better Than Her” that was in the jukebox last week. I thought “Not Alone” by Sara Bareilles was OK, give it some time to grow on me.

My favorite song of the week goes to “Desperate Boys and Stupid Girls” by Kimberly Caldwell. She did a cover of an Alana Grace (who is a good friend of mine) song earlier this year and I didn’t really like it (great song; but it just didn’t go well with her voice and it was hard for me to like an Alana song, not being sung by Alana-lol). I think this song is really good though (because boys can be desperate and girls can be stupid) and I hope it becomes a radio hit!

What song in the jukebox do you want to become a radio hit? Shoot me an e-mail and let me know! You can also write me with any other song you want my opinion on – I love hearing from you guys! Also, stop by the station’s website and show your support for the best radio station on the net! You can tune in to our DJs on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9 p.m. Eastern! We are huge supporters of HitPredictor too! See you next week, where I will have plenty more to say and more songs to rate! – DJ Lilly, Owner of Resolution Radio (hewitt_fanatic@musician.org)
