DJ Lilly’s picks and predictions, with an eye on the Hot 100 this week!

Standard

Hey HP!

I hope everyone had a fantabulous holiday weekend! So, I was gone all weekend and didn’t have much time to rate songs for the week, but I didn’t want to leave you with nothing, so I decided to concentrate on the Hot 100 this week.

I still like both of the Rihanna songs that are on the list and I even tried to buy the new Rihanna album, Loud, on Black Friday, but they were sold out.

I still hate the Ke$ha song (“We R Who We R”) and still don’t really understand why it’s so popular.

Katy Perry’s “Firework” is a good song, and the video is awesome too.

My favorite song on the list is probably Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” (its growing on me).

I also still really like “Just a Dream” by Nelly.

Two songs that are on the Hot 100 that I hope eventually reach the Top 10 are “Please Don’t Go” by Mike Posner (I am really starting to like that song and I find it stuck in my head once in awhile) and “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith – I think both have pretty much run their course though.

The songs I heard in the jukebox were “Hummingbird Heartbeat” by Katy Perry, which was OK.

Another song I heard was “Last Night” by Good Charlotte, which wasn’t OK. I am really disappointed in them sometimes.

“Hey Alli” by Runner Runner was pretty good, “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry was alright; but not as good as her previous songs. “Hold My Hand” by Michael Jackson and Akon could’ve been better; but it wasn’t too awful. I still really like “Desperate Girls and Stupid Boys” by Kimberly Caldwell (that is the title according to her website).

Some updated Resolution Radio news, my Holiday Show will be on December 12th at 9 p.m. EST – come listen to some of your favorite holiday tunes (and maybe make some new ones too!). I will be playing some classics and some not-so classics :P. The Top 50 contest window opens tonight (Nov. 30) at 12:01 a.m. and will remain open until Dec. 21 at 11:59 p.m. – check out all the details and rules on our site. In the meantime, please listen to me and Mel as we rock your house 3 times a week (Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights) at 9 p.m. EST!

See you next week! – DJ Lilly

Eminem doesn’t budge from Hot 100

Standard

Eminem retains his stranglehold on the Billboard Hot 100 for a seventh week with his hit featuring Rihanna “Love The Way You Lie.” But this run can’t last forever…

Billboard reports that the greatest threat to “Love the Way You Lie” is Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” which this week won both the Airplay and Digital Gainer awards on the chart.

Do you think she will overtake Eminem on the Hot 100 next week after beating him out on the Billboard 200 this week?

Eminem notches sixth week atop Hot 100

Standard

Eminem has held on to another No. 1 week atop the Billboard Hot 100 as “Love The Way You Lie” feat. Rihanna continues to increase its airplay, with Billboard reporting a new high of 154.6 million listener impressions thanks in large part to the track now getting spins on R&B stations.

Lil Wayne had a big debut this week on the Hot 100 – despite being behind bars – as his new single “Right Above It” feat. Drake comes in at No. 6. Interestingly enough, Billboard reports that this song is the rappers first chart-topper (No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart) and best sales week on the Digital chart (225,000 downloads), and his highest debuting single as a lead artist on the Hot 100. So, maybe his time at Rikers isn’t so bad for his career after all?

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 2, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz

Standard

Eminem is the king of the charts again this week after re-securing the Billboard 200 and continuing to hold on at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, for the fifth straight week.

Katy Perry also hit a milestone this week, according to Billboard, as she became the 10th solo female in the Hot 100’s 52-year history to concurrently record two titles in the top five as the lead artist. This week “California Gurls” comes in at No. 3 on the chart, and “Teenage Dream” squeaks in at No. 5. Her newest track “Circle the Drain” – which many of you rated this week at HitPredictor – came in at No. 58 – do you think it will chart much higher?

Eminem returns to top of Billboard 200

Standard

Eminem’ Recovery is back on top of the Billboard 200 after spending a couple of weeks in the runner-up position, rebounding for its seventh frame after selling 133,000 units according to Nielsen SoundScan.

With its seventh week, it is now the most weeks spent at No. 1 since Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream held the perch for six straight frames in December ’09 – January ’10.

Also worthy to note is that the album has sold at least 100,000 copies for eight consecutive weeks. Those high sales figures could push totals past the two million mark this week, which, according to Billboard, would make it only the second album to sell that well this year, falling in line behind Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which has sold 2.5 million copies.

The rest of the Billboard 200 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 2, The Suburbs, Arcade Fire, 52,000
  • At No. 3, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, soundtrack, 41,000
  • At No. 4, Order of the Black, Black Label Society, 33,000
  • At No. 5, My World 2.0, Justin Bieber, just under 33,000
  • At No. 6, All About Tonight, Blake Shelton 33,000(-)
  • At No. 7, Teflon Don, Rick Ross, 30,000
  • At No. 8, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, Mike Posner, 29,000
  • At No. 9, Kidz Bop 18, 28,000

DJ Lilly gives us her reviews and picks on what’s hot and what’s going to be soon!

Standard

Hey HP!

My name is Lilly, and I am the Owner/DJ of Resolution Radio! I am also a writer and I’ve always been told I have a good ear for music; so we will see how this goes! I made a deal with HitPredictor that I would come on here about once a week or so and give my opinions on the hottest songs of the week (according to Billboard Hot 100) and also give my predictions on some of the songs currently in the HitPredictor Jukebox (as of the writing of this blog).

First off, let’s start with the Billboard Hot 100 this week: I love “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna – I think it’s a great song with very real lyrics. I can’t imagine anyone else singing it besides Rihanna (she puts feeling into the song because she has lived through it). I am not a big fan of “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz (sorry!). It’s an OK song; but I’m just not feeling it. I love “California Gurls” – another hit for Katy Perry! I still love “Airplanes” and it’s actually probably one of my favorite songs of the year! So far I have liked every single that Jason Derulo has released, and “Ridin’ Solo” is no exception – I think it’s a great song that everyone can relate to. Taylor Swift debuted at No. 3 this week, and though I am not a big fan of the song “Mine”, it might grow on me later. Oh, and I like Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me”; but so far it’s the only song of his that I like.

Now, onto the songs currently in the HitPredictor jukebox (only reviewing some): I like some Usher songs; but not really feeling “Hot Tottie”; but I am sure it will be a hit because it’s Usher and Jay-Z. So far I am really liking Tino Coury’s sound and songs – I am hoping he will be a big star someday; because he definitely has the look and talent. 30 Seconds to Mars’ song “Closer To The Edge” is OK; but I don’t think it will be as big of a hit as their previous songs. I don’t like the new Weezer song “Memories” at all. Let me just say, SoundGarden will NEVER have a better song than “Black Hole Sun” and I don’t think “Black Rain” will even be a huge hit. I think “Just Let Go” by Reina is a good techno-type of song and it might do pretty well on the dance charts – a lot of people like those club type of songs. I think my favorite song currently in the jukebox is “Just a Dream” by Nelly – I think it’s such a great song and I see it being a HUGE hit. I also really like “Body Shots” by Kaci Battaglia – I really think she is underrated. I also think Justin Bieber’s new song, “U Smile” will be a huge hit because teenage girls still exist in this world :). And that’s it for this week; but I will see y’all next week with more songs!

If you want to get to know me better; head over to the Resolution Radio Web site and say Hi! We seriously do play the best music on the Net!

Until then, see you later and thanks for reading! – Lilly

It was all good last week, but see what impressed Nina the most!

Standard

Guest blogger and HitPredictor member Nina C. reports on the new music finds and what she liked and didn’t like in the HitPredictor jukebox last week. Many of these songs are still available so make check them out and let us know whether you agree or disagree! And, make sure you check out Nina’s other blog, TwilightNera’s Entertainment Hotspot for other news in the entertainment world.

I have nothing but good things to say about this week’s music. No really, I don’t have one negative review (that even surprised me!). Although I didn’t find anything particularly unique in jukebox, I thought most of the artists and songs have massive potential to be hits.

On the hip-hop front Nelly’s “Just a Dream” makes a good song for him to come back strong with. I was such a fan of Nelly years ago but haven’t heard anything in a long time worth listening to.  This song is a great mix between R&B and hip-hop and brings back – to me – what Nelly is all about. “Fancy” by Drake feat. T.I. & Swizz Beatz is sure to burn up the hip-hop charts! The beat is hard and the rhymes are tight – it’s hip-hop at its best.

Lady Gaga’s “Dance in the dark” and “So Happy I could Die” are two great dance tunes from The Fame Monster (an album I listen to almost every other day). I only hope that her crazy antics won’t increase and over shadow her huge musical talent. To me any song off of that album is good enough to be a single.

I like Mike Posner’s mix of an urban voice set with pop music.  I think he has a real chance of becoming a hit, although sometimes I find reading him as an artist really hard. Some song’s like “Do You Wanna” makes him seem like a nice gentlemen and other song’s like “Gone In September” makes him look like stone-cold jerk. Everyone has two sides to themselves I guess, and both of his sides are kinda hot.

I found “Country Strong” by Gwyneth Paltrow to be really good. I’m not at all a fan of that kind of music but her vocals are really good (even though it was weird at first hearing Gwyneth Paltrow sing a country tune).  The group Jamestown Story has great rock with good lyrics. The music is fun and lyrics are playful; I really enjoyed their songs in the jukebox.

Was this a good or bad for you and what was some of your favorite songs in the jukebox?

See you next week!!

This week’s hidden song contest winners!

Standard

Thanks to everyone that took part in the hidden song contest at HitPredictor this week! We had an unexpected* four songs to find, and many of you dug in, rated a bunch of new music, and persevered in reporting all four!

And, because there were four songs, there was a total of 80 participation points up for grabs, which was a nice reward for those members who are regular participants and truly missed the contest last week (thanks so much for letting me know – we’re happy to hear that this contest is so fun for many of you!).

As many discovered, the four hidden songs this week were “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, Kris Allen’s “Alright with Me,” Mike Posner’s “Please Don’t Go,” and finally “U Smile” by Justin Bieber. For those who didn’t have time to take part in the contest this week, these four tracks will remain in the jukebox, available for you to rate through the weekend!

Now, let’s get to the good stuff! The winners of this week’s FOUR 250-point bonus prizes are HitPredictor members paymenow, bobbysuehs, DreamChaser, and vicloveshk. Congratulations! And a big thanks to those members who nominated songs this week – it’s your nominations that keep this contest going! Those who nominated the “winners” each receive a 25 point reward.

So who are your picks for next week? Let me know by dropping it off on the HitPredictor Facebook page, or e-mailing to me at maijaliisa[at]hitpredictor.com.

Make sure you check out all of our new additions to the jukebox this week! We added some new tracks from Swedish pop star Robyn (more here), and have new music from Nelly, 3OH!3, Dierks Bentley, and Zac Brown Band ready for you now (with more coming tomorrow!)

*Unexpected because three songs were ID’d for the contest; mid-day Tuesday an additional song from the nominations was put into the jukebox for testing. We sent out notes to all those who had rated music BEFORE the track was put into the jukebox so everyone had a chance to find all four.

Eminem retains No. 1 position on Hot 100

Standard

Taylor Swift comes out swinging with her new single “Mine” but it wasn’t quite enough to dethrone Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie,” from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Billboard reports the country star’s new single came in at No. 3 in its debut week, making Swift only the second female artist in the history of the Hot 100 to debut multiple tracks in the top 5 during the calendar year. Swift’s “Today Was a Fairytale,” debuted at No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart dated Feb. 6. The only other female artist to have done so is Mariah Carey who at two tracks “Fantasy,” and “One Sweet Day,” open at No. 1 in 1995.

The rest of the Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 2, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz

Eminem holds on to No. 1 on Hot 100 for third straight week

Standard

Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna is still at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the third straight week. According to Billboard.com, the song has also again claimed the Airplay Gainer Trophy (for a fifth straight week), and is on the heels of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” on the Radio Songs chart, which it will likely overtake next week.

But don’t feel too bad for Perry, Billboard reports her hit “California Gurls” is still at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and has a partner in the top 10 as her second single from her new album “Teenage Dream” screams in to No. 7 on the chart.

The rest of the Billboard 100 top 10 includes:

Eminem maintains No. 1 spot on Hot 100, sets new record

Standard

Eminem has recorded another big week as not only does Recovery hold the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, but his single “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna maintains its peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second straight week.

Billboard reports “Love The Way You Lie” earned the chart’s Airplay Gainer award for its fourth straight week, pushing it to No. 5 on Hot 100 Airplay, and holding on to the No. 1 standing on Digital Songs for a fifth week ever widening its points lead over Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” which it successfully bumped to No. 2 last week.

Billboard reports that Eminem is the first artist in the “digital age” to concurrently hold the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and the Hot Digital Songs for five straight weeks.

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 2, “California Gurls,” Katy Perry
  • At No. 3, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars

  • At No. 8, “OMG,” Usher featuring will.i.am
  • At No. 9, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 10, “Ridin’ Solo,” Jason Derulo

Of interest is Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” which came in at No. 20 in its first week of availability – are you a fan of this new song?  Another new entry on the chart is Bruno Mars’ first solo single “Just The Way You Are,” a song several members have tipped off as having great potential, so definitely one we’re looking to get in the jukebox soon!

Katy Perry holds top spot on Hot 100 for sixth straight week

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg continues to hold No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for its sixth straight week.

However, Billboard predicts it may be Perry’s last week on top since Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, this week’s No. 2 on the Hot 100, is also the chart’s Airplay Gainer for a second straight week, which puts it in line to take over the top spot next week.

The rest of the Hot 100 Top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 4, “OMG” Usher featuring will.i.am

Katy Perry extends “California Gurls” run to five straight weeks

Standard

How long can she hold onto the No. 1 position on the Hot 100? Well that’s a question that won’t be answered until – at earliest – next week as Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” extends its run on the top of the Hot 1oo to five weeks, with Billboard reporting that airplay for Perry’s first single off the forthcoming Teenage Dream is still continuing to build.

Perry and Snoop Dogg were able to fend off the huge leap Eminem made with “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, which blasted in at No. 2 last week and held steady at that position. Billboard reports that most download-fueled top 10 debuts (such as this one) normally slip in their second week on the list, but that Eminem’s new track hardly dropped its download numbers at all. Another interesting tidbit on the Detroit-based rapper is that his first single from Recovery, “Not Afraid” moved back into the top 10 this week, giving Em simultaneous top 10s for the first time in his career.

The rest of the Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher feat. will.i.am
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy
  • At No. 6, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner
  • At No. 7, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz
  • At No. 8, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 9, “Ridin’ Solo,” Jason Derulo
  • At No. 10, “Not Afraid,” Eminem

Do you have any of these tracks on heavy rotation? Or, are there any you think are getting too MUCH airplay?

Katy Perry continues her reign on top of Hot 100

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg has held on to the throne at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth straight week. Billboard reports the summer anthem has also earned the Airplay Gainer award for the third straight week.

It will be fun to see if she can pull of another week as Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” from his new album Recovery stormed the chart coming in at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Will it continue to gain steam next week to usurp “California Gurls”?

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher featuring will.i.am
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars
  • At No. 6, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 7, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner
  • At No. 8, “Your Love Is My Drug,” Ke$ha
  • At No. 9, “Alejandro,” Lady Gaga
  • At No. 10, “Whatcha Say,” Jason Derulo

Other notable debuts in the Hot 100 this week are songs that many of our HitPredictor members have recently voted on including Selena Gomez & The Scene’s “Round & Round,” which debuted at No. 24, Maroon 5’s “Misery” which came in at No. 44, and Sara Bareilles’ “King of Anything” which came in at No. 59.
