Eminem holds on to No. 1 on Hot 100 for third straight week

Standard

Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna is still at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the third straight week. According to Billboard.com, the song has also again claimed the Airplay Gainer Trophy (for a fifth straight week), and is on the heels of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” on the Radio Songs chart, which it will likely overtake next week.

But don’t feel too bad for Perry, Billboard reports her hit “California Gurls” is still at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and has a partner in the top 10 as her second single from her new album “Teenage Dream” screams in to No. 7 on the chart.

The rest of the Billboard 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “I Like It,” Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull

Standard

Eminem has recorded another big week as not only does Recovery hold the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, but his single “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna maintains its peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second straight week.

Billboard reports “Love The Way You Lie” earned the chart’s Airplay Gainer award for its fourth straight week, pushing it to No. 5 on Hot 100 Airplay, and holding on to the No. 1 standing on Digital Songs for a fifth week ever widening its points lead over Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” which it successfully bumped to No. 2 last week.

Billboard reports that Eminem is the first artist in the “digital age” to concurrently hold the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and the Hot Digital Songs for five straight weeks.

Katy Perry holds top spot on Hot 100 for sixth straight week

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg continues to hold No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for its sixth straight week.

However, Billboard predicts it may be Perry’s last week on top since Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, this week’s No. 2 on the Hot 100, is also the chart’s Airplay Gainer for a second straight week, which puts it in line to take over the top spot next week.

The rest of the Hot 100 Top 10 includes:

  • At No. 4, “OMG” Usher featuring will.i.am

Katy Perry extends “California Gurls” run to five straight weeks

Standard

How long can she hold onto the No. 1 position on the Hot 100? Well that’s a question that won’t be answered until – at earliest – next week as Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” extends its run on the top of the Hot 1oo to five weeks, with Billboard reporting that airplay for Perry’s first single off the forthcoming Teenage Dream is still continuing to build.

Perry and Snoop Dogg were able to fend off the huge leap Eminem made with “Love The Way You Lie” featuring Rihanna, which blasted in at No. 2 last week and held steady at that position. Billboard reports that most download-fueled top 10 debuts (such as this one) normally slip in their second week on the list, but that Eminem’s new track hardly dropped its download numbers at all. Another interesting tidbit on the Detroit-based rapper is that his first single from Recovery, “Not Afraid” moved back into the top 10 this week, giving Em simultaneous top 10s for the first time in his career.

The rest of the Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher feat. will.i.am
  • At No. 4, “Airplanes,” B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy
  • At No. 6, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner
  • At No. 7, “Dynamite,” Taio Cruz
  • At No. 8, “Find Your Love,” Drake
  • At No. 9, “Ridin’ Solo,” Jason Derulo
  • At No. 10, “Not Afraid,” Eminem

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg has held on to the throne at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fourth straight week. Billboard reports the summer anthem has also earned the Airplay Gainer award for the third straight week.

It will be fun to see if she can pull of another week as Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna “Love the Way You Lie” from his new album Recovery stormed the chart coming in at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Will it continue to gain steam next week to usurp “California Gurls”?

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 includes:

  • At No. 3, “OMG,” Usher featuring will.i.am

Billboard reports that the track also took this week’s Airplay and Digital Gainer awards making Perry the first female artist to grab simultaneous gainer awards while at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Alicia Keys did so with “No One” on the chart dated Dec. 1, 2007.

Martina McBride, T.I., and Kid Rock: What do these artists have in common?

Standard

Don’t you love how artists are getting more and more creative with the fellow musicians they are choosing collaborate and record with?

I was a little wary but pleasantly surprised with B.o.B bringing Paramore’s Hayley Williams on board for “Airplanes” and there’s a new track that’s just been recorded that features an even more unique collaborative team.

Martina McBride has already hooked up with Kid Rock on a track together – most notably their duet at the CMA Music Festival last year. So while this pairing isn’t unique adding rapper T.I. to the mix is!

This week during Billboard’s Country Music Summit McBride announced the unique collaboration: “I just recorded a song with Kid Rock for his new album. It seems like an odd pairing, but I love that he sees the real redneck in me. There’s a rapper called T.I. who raps the third verse. Kid Rock sings the first verse, I sing the second verse and T.I. raps the third verse. Crazy, but it’s really uplifting and it’s a cool melody and it feels good. It makes sense. If I was rapping the third verse, that would not make sense.”

McBride revealed nothing more about the collaboration or track, but described how the pairing came about:  “With Kid Rock, I sang a duet with him at the CMA Music Festival last year. He had said he would write a song for us to do for his new album, and he’s true to his word. He sent it to me and I just loved it. It’s an uplifting song, has great lyrics and he’s such a huge country music fan. It’s exciting.”

Do you think this collaboration of Kid Rock, Martina McBride, and T.I. has the potential to be a hit song?

Do you think artists are turning to more creative pairings to gain some buzz and momentum behind the track?

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” tops out on Billboard 100

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” featuring Snoop Dogg is sitting pretty atop the Billboard Hot 100, making it the second time Perry has topped out at No. 1 on the chart in her career, the first being with the infamous “I Kissed a Girl” in the summer of 2008. It’s also Snoop Dogg’s third time at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 out of the 31 chart entries he’s had on the list since 1993.

With Perry making her way to the No. 1, Usher is displaced and his single “OMG” featuring will.i.am dropps to the No. 2 position.

The rest of the Billboard Hot 100 includes:

  • At No. 3, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams
  • At No. 4, “Your Love Is My Drug,” Ke$ha
  • At No. 5, “Billionaire,” Travie McCoy
  • At No. 6, “Break Your Heart,” Taio Cruz
  • At No. 7, “Alejandro,” Lady Gaga
  • At No. 8, “Nothin’ On You,” B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars
  • At No. 9, “Rock That Body,” The Black Eyed Peas
  • At No. 10, “Bulletproof,” LaRoux

Of note is the fact that “Rock That Body” from the Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D. is the fifth top 10 single from this multi-platinum set. Perhaps even more impressive is that in the 62 weeks since “Boom” hit the upper tier, the Black Eyed Peas have been absent from the top 10 for just 15 frames according to Billboard.com.

Usher has held on to the top slot on the Billboard Hot 100 with his single “OMG” featuring will.i.am for the fourth (non-consecutive) week. Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” moves up a notch on the Hot 100, which Billboard reports is the No. 1 song on the Digital chart, and is climbing rapidly on the Radio Songs chart to its current position at No. 10, which is the fastest climb into the top 10 since T.I.’s “Live Your Life” in October 2008.

  • At No. 3, “Airplanes,” B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams

  • At No. 10, “Not Afraid,” Eminem

Billboard also reported on Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox’s entries into the Hot 100 noting that DeWyze’s “Beautiful Day” arrived at No. 24 which makes it the third American Idol winner to fall short of the top 10 (assuming it falls next week as expected). DeWyze’s other debuts on the chart include “Hallelujah” at No. 44, and “The Boxer,” at No. 88. Bowersox’s only contribution was “Up To the Mountain,” which came in at No. 57, while the pair’s duet “Falling Slowly” came in at No. 66.

Rapper B.o.B mixes it up for his debut album, putting Haley Williams and Eminem together!

Standard

Is Atlanta-based rapper B.o.B a genius?

He hooked up 21-year-old Hayley Williams of Paramore with Eminem in a collaboration for “Airplanes (Part II),” a new track on his upcoming debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which is scheduled to drop at the end of this month (April 27).

Williams also made an appearance on “Airplanes” for the album, and discussed how it all came about with MTV News. “I was given the track a while ago while we were on tour,” Williams said. “The guys and I all loved it. They told me I was crazy if I passed it up. I liked the part too much anyways, so of course I was down.”

While Williams never set foot in the studio with Em, she said she was more than excited about the opportunity: “I only found out about Eminem getting on the track like a month ago. As if the song couldn’t get any better. He just slays me, he’s such a genius,” she said.

As to the final product? “Both versions of the track are incredible, that’s all I’ll say,” she said. “I’m so proud to be a part of this!”

Besides this odd couple, B.o.B has a few more interesting collaborations on the album – adding Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo to the mix of rappers such as T.I. and Lupe Fiasco!

Does the unusual mix of artists in unique collaborations make you curious to hear just what the buzzworthy Atlanta rapper has on his debut album?
