Bret Michaels to meet with American Idol producers about open judges’ seat

Standard

Bret Michaels continues to bounce back from his recent health scares, with Rolling Stone reporting that the rocker is now actively pursuing the judges’ chair Simon Cowell vacated at the end of season nine.

Michaels said he will be meeting with American Idol producers in Los Angeles within the next few weeks to further discuss the possibility of him taking a seat at the judges’ table.  Michaels said in an interview with Parade: “They did a poll and I think it was Madonna, P. Diddy, Howard Stern and myself, and I took 50% or 60% of the vote and that’s tremendous. I would love to be a judge on American Idol. I think I would bring a lot to the table. I would have to bring my own personality. I think if they have someone in there to try to imitate Simon [Cowell], it would be a mistake; he’s an original. Bring Bret Michaels in to be original to who and what I am. Bring someone who can bring a little grit, true grit back to the show.”

The 47-year-old Michaels first experienced a massive brain hemorrhage in April and spent 12 days in the hospital before being discharged and readmitted after suffering a “warning stroke” just 16 days later. Since he left the hospital after the stroke Michaels has gone back on tour and also appeared on the finale of the Celebrity Apprentice. While his rep says the rocker isn’t quite back to 100 percent yet, it’s clear he’s bound and determined to continue living his life.

Medical experts say the rocker’s lucky to be alive at all after suffering a brain hemorrhage and then a warning stroke in the spring. Between 15% and 20% of patients die following a brain hemorrhage, and just half of those who survive have a good outcome, Michaels’ doctor, Dr. Joseph Zabramski of the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix told People.

Do you think Michaels would be a good judge on American Idol? Do you think the strain of the job would be too much for his body to handle? Or, do you think it would be better for him to stay in L.A. to work the show rather than living a life on the road?

Eminem’s “Recovery” posts huge numbers in first week sales; easily tops Billboard 200

Standard

Eminem’s latest work Recovery had an amazing first week of sales, logging 741,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan, which was more than enough for him to secure the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

Billboard reports that the sales figure for Recovery makes it the biggest sales week for a single album since AC/DC’s Black Ice debuted in October 2008, selling 784,000 copies in its first week.

Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that this album is Eminem’s sixth straight No. 1 debut; the only album that missed the top spot was his Slim Shady LP which peaked at No. 2 in 1999 in its initial sales week. The only hip-hop artist to earn more No. 1 debuts is Jay-Z, who has had 11 according to Billboard.

Another tidbit to note – especially since we are also asking you to rate this song in the HitPredictor jukebox now – is that Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna “Love The Way You Lie” debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart after selling 338,000 downloads. Have you rated this song yet at HitPredictor? If not, check it out and let us know what you think!

Last week’s title holder Drake slips to No. 2, after selling 157,000 copies of his debut album Thank Me Later.

The rest of the Billboard 200 includes:

  • At No. 3, Can’t Be Tamed, Miley Cyrus, 102,000
  • At No. 4, Scream, Ozzy Osbourne, 81,000
  • At No. 5, Now That’s What I Call Music Vol. 34, compilation, 55,000
  • At No. 6, How I Got Over, Roots, 51,000
  • At No. 7, To The Sea, Jack Johnson, 44,000
  • At No. 8, My World 2.0, Justin Bieber, 43,000
  • At No. 9, Laws of Illusion, Sarah McLachlan, 38,000
  • At No. 10, Twilight: Eclipse, soundtrack, just under 38,000

Did you purchase any of these albums last week? If so, what did you buy and why?

Drake joins Chris Brown in studio

Standard

SOHH.com is reporting that Young Money Rapper and the new “It” boy Drake has been working in the studio with Chris Brown.

The two share a unique link – they each dated Rihanna – Drake after the incident and breakup with Brown. Since then, each artist has released a track that include a verse about their time with the pop diva, making it a slightly unusual collaboration.

Drake revealed his studio work with Brown in an interview with “Extra” saying: “I’ve been working all night … I’ve just been in the studio. I was actually in the studio with Chris Brown for a little bit. Then I was studio hopping, seeing where I can lend my hand since I’ve done mine.”

Drake’s Thank Me Later debuted to big numbers last week, and is expected to sell strong again in its second week. The album features a host of collaborations including Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, T.I., Swizz Beats, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, The Dream, and Young Jeezy, so it seems Drake is looking to repay the favors he called in.

And, SOHH reports that Drake is not the only artist to lend a helping hand to Brown, with several other stars to include Cassie, Mario, Lloyd, and Keri Hilson expressing their support following Brown’s breakdown during the Michael Jackson tribute at Sunday’s BET Awards.

What do you think of Drake and Brown working together? Are you surprised that each artist was able to get over the common link (Rihanna) between them? Do you like Drake’s attitude of helping others with their new work now that his album has dropped?
