Call Us Kings!

Call Us Kings is a power-pop band from Cleveland, Ohio that doesn’t even see the sky as a limit! The five guys came together from the demise of two other regionally popular Ohio bands, Everything Zen and The Thrifters. Both bands were feeling stuck at a standstill but the members were still motivated to make new music. It was only when they decided to collaborate that they realized they had something special and formed Call us Kings. In just their first few months as a band Call us Kings scored a spot on the Journey’s Backyard BBQ, and went on a national tour.

According to the press: “These guys have what it takes to pick you up and knock you down in one swoop, so be on your toes. You can catch them on the road all so make sure you’re there when they come rolling to your town!” Call us Kings’ debut EP “Nut Up or Shut Up” is available now. So check out the interview below our blogger YourMusicSource conducted with Zach, the lead singer, and then rate two of their tracks: “That Was Then (This Is Now)” and “Rocky Loves Emily” at HitPredictor and let us know what you think!

Who are the members of your band, and what do each of you play?
Zach – Vocals
Vince – Guitar/VOX
Steve – Drum/VOX
Colin – Guitar
Chris – Bass

How did you get started?
Well this band was the formation of two bands actually. The two bands who created Call Us Kings were Everything Zen & The Thrifters. Both bands were at a standstill and most members from both bands still wanted to make music. So Call Us Kings was born!

How did you come up with the name of your band?
There is a popular band from Columbus called City Lights and they have a song called “Kings.” The reason I saw this was because we were looking for a place to record and we looked at a place in Columbus called Capitol House Studios. We were on their MySpace listening to recordings when I saw the song “Kings.” I pretty much just said “Hey Call Us Kings would be a cool name” and it stuck!

How would you describe your music to others?
If I had to describe our music to others I would say we are an insanely catchy, hook driven power-pop band from Cleveland, Ohio. I think we are fun and enjoyable to watch live and our music is too catchy for words!

As a band, where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?
We wanna be as big as All Time Low. We love those dudes and think that we could be there one day!

Where do you get your inspiration from?
We get our inspiration from other bands and from the fans! We love bands like Blink 182, All Time Low, and other punkish bands. It is the fans though that really keep us motivated and doing what we love.

Any pet peeves?
As of right now I cannot think of any. I will have to get back to you. ;]

What is your dream venue to play at?
I am not sure I have a dream venue, but I know that playing Vans Warped Tour would be amazing! Playing all of Warped Tour has been a dream of mine for a while and I think that would just be super slick! I would also love to play Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO.

What is your favorite song(s) to perform?
As of right now we only have our new EP “Nut Up or Shut Up” but on that EP I love playing No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice live because it gets the crowd jumping! It is our heaviest song and we love to just rock the crap out of the audience. That is my favorite song to play with this band, however, I loved playing other songs with Everything Zen!

What do your fans mean to you?
More than words can even describe. They are the best and they make everything worth it!

If you could have lunch with anyone dead or alive who would you choose?
Jesus, because I would love to know his feelings/thoughts while he was carrying the cross and how he really felt towards humanity.

Who would you love to go on tour with?
At our stage in the game I would love to tour with a band called Freshman 15. They are extremely motivated and put on an awesome live show. They also seem like seriously amazing dudes! But if I could choose any band out there my dream tour would be us, Blink 182, and All Time Low! That would be a disaster waiting to happen. And that could be the tour name!

What is your favorite part of the music industry?
Most likely the ride to stardom. I think that it is extremely cool the way artists and bands rise to fame. I hope that our ride will bring us to the place we wanna be musically.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to get into the music industry?
Never give up and never surrender. Always try your hardest and if you do you will make it to where you want to be.

Any embarrassing moments on stage?
As of right now there have been no embarrassing moments on stage, but I am sure that there will be some very soon!

Who is your celebrity crush?
Natalie Portman and Lady Gaga. Nuff said.

Grand Ole Opry to undergo $17M in repairs, reopen in October

Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry is scheduled to reopen Oct. 1 and will be undergoing an estimated $17 million repair to fix the damages the venue sustained during the middle Tennessee flooding in early May. The country music mecca has been putting on a weekly concert since 1925.

Reports said that the Opry was under more than two feet of water after the floods, and destroyed the stage, dressing rooms, a retail store and all the electrical wiring which will be replaced during the renovation.

Unfortunately, many employees will be cut in order for the Opry to be fixed. Rolling Stone reports that the Opryland Hotel and Convention center will cut 1,743 jobs at the complex beginning next week.

Do you think it’s important that this country music mecca be rebuilt?

Health scares don’t slow down Bret Michaels, continues his tour, VH1 show

Despite Bret Michaels’ recent life-threatening health scares, the former Poison frontman is planning to move forward with not just his tour, but a new album, and a new VH1 reality show.

The doctor has issues strict orders to avoid stage-diving, groupies, and after parties as he continues his “Custom Built” tour. But despite the strong concerns over his health Michaels told in a phone interview Thursday night that “”I think this is good for my soul.”

He said he has plans to take every precaution and not do anything stupid, and that despite his health maladies “I’m going on stage and telling the fans that I’m going to give 100 percent of everything I’ve got, but if it’s only 75 or 80 percent, I think they will understand.”

So why is he so adamant about returning to work after such a serious series of scares? In his own words it is because: “I don’t want my legacy to be that I had a brain hemorrhage. I want it to be that I rocked, I treated people with respect and I made a lot of good friends along the way. I think that came back to me when I got sick. I truly believe if you’re a good person, and you spread love, then that love will come back to you.”

Of course the doctors would prefer he take it easy, but he’s being closely monitored and following all their instructions on the road to recovery which includes special exercises to increase mobility, and preparing for a fall surgery to repair a hold in his heart by avoiding booze and taking blood thinners.

Do you think it is too soon for Bret to be jumping back into the thick of things?

Or do you think he will have a different approach and that after these scares his priorities have shifted?

Do you plan to watch his upcoming VH1 reality show called “Life As I Know It”? (The show focuses on his relationship with his two daughters and their mother his on-again, off-again girlfriend).

Drake hosts listening party previewing upcoming album

Since his highly anticipated debut album Thank Me Later leaked earlier this week, Drake took it upon himself to host a listening party June 2 in NYC. Some of the artists that joined reporters in a Manhattan recording studio included Chris Brown, Jay Sean, Bow Wow, Baby, along with Universal Motown president Sylvia Rhone according to

Drake addressed the group saying, “this is just one of those magical days that you remember forever.” Noticeably absent was Drake’s mentor Lil Wayne, who is currently serving a one-year jail sentence at Rikers. However, Drake made a trip out to the island to visit his friend before the listening party; Drake told the crowd, “I just looked in his eyes, and I could tell he was proud of me.”

Drake talked about his inspiration and admitted he never thought he’d elevate past free-mixtape fame saying: “I’m driven and influenced by things that me and Oliver sit around and discuss, one of which was [rapper] Nasir Jones. I studied his patterns, lyrics and stories and I try to channel it in my music. Jimi Hendrix as well, I pay attention to his performance and his demeanor. And then other than that, my family, women, money — the things that control my life.”

A reporter from Billboard magazine attended the listening party and did a brief writeup of each and every song on the album. You can check out that full report here.

Are you looking forward to getting yourself a copy June 15?
