‘Now 37’ Shakes to the Top of Billboard 200

Standard

This week’s Billboard 200 starts off with “Now That’s What I Call Music 37” in the top spot with 151,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Clearly it was the Valentine’s Day shopping that pushed this one over the edge and other albums as well.

In the No. 2 spot we have Mumford & Sons’ “Sigh No More” with 49,000 in sales. This figure is up 99% since last week. According to Billboard, “it’s a new chart peak and the set’s second-best sales week. Not bad for an album that came out exactly a year ago today (Feb. 16, 2010). The majority of “Sigh’s” gain can be attributed to a surge in digital sales on Sunday night (13), thanks to the quartet’s performance on the Grammy Awards. The Glassnote Records act was also nominated for best new artist, which was presented during the broadcast.”

Here is the rest of the top 10 on this week’s Billboard 200:

  • No. 3 – Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0”
  • No. 4 – Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday”
  • No. 5 – P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!”
  • No. 6 – Bruno Mars’ “Doo Wops & Hooligans”
  • No. 7 – Eminem’s “Recovery”
  • No. 8 – Rihanna’s “Loud”
  • No. 9 – Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party”
  • No. 10 – Justin Bieber’s “My Worlds Acoustic”

Notables: Justin Bieber is riding high this week with 2 albums on the Billboard 200, his new movie “Never Say Never” in theaters, multiple Grammy nominations, and a performance on the show with mentor Usher.

Billboard forgot to include last week that Minaj was the first female rapper to top the Billboard 200 since way back on Oct. 2, 1999, when Eve bowed atop the list with “Let There Be Eve.”

Believe it or not, but P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!” is her second-highest charting album. Of her five earlier albums, only her “Funhouse” set has been higher, when it debuted and peaked at No. 2 (Nov. 15, 2008).

Even though I’m going to post the Billboard Hot 100 tomorrow, I think it must be said that Lady Gaga is claiming the top spot on that chart with “Born This Way” being the 1,000th No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Billboard started charting. That’s a milestone! I will tell y’all more about Gaga’s reaction tomorrow but it’s breaking news that it happened right now.
