Standard

Now that Katy Perry has  landed ANOTHER No. 1 single from Teenage Dream, she’s already trying to decide which track she should release as her next single.

Last week Perry’s “Firework” reached the pinnacle on the Hot 100, marking the third straight radio single to make it to No. 1 on the chart, following her smash hit “California Gurls,” and the title track “Teenage Dream.”

This weekend Perry reached out to fans on Twitter asking them what they think she should release as her next single.

Perry wrote: “PEOPLE u are the reason why I’m here, SO what song off of TEENAGE DREAM do u want to blow up NEXT?!” she tweeted on Sunday. “Put a # next to the song YOU want!”

Of course, thousands of fans weighed in, and Perry indicated that post-survey there was a clear winner – she just wouldn’t say what it was.

This morning she took to Twitter to say: “Thanks for all your great suggestions for the next single today. Your voice has been heard! We’re on the same page…”

What do you think Perry’s next single should be from Teenage Dream?

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” continues to grow in popularity

Standard

Katy Perry’s “California Gurls” is looking more and more like the song of the summer as Billboard reports the new track has made the quickest ascent to the top of Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart in more than five years, as it rocketed from No. 5 to No. 1 during its sixth week on the chart.

The report said the last song to reach No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart in six weeks was Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” which reached No. 1 on the chart dated May 21, 2005.

Perry’s latest hit marks her third No. 1 on Pop Songs with “Waking Up in Vegas” taking the helm for two weeks last August and “Hot N Cold” holding it for three weeks in 2008. Meanwhile, it is her collaborator Snoop Dogg’s second trip to the top, with his previous hit – also as a featured artist – on the Pussycat Dolls’ “Buttons” in Sept. 2006.

“California Gurls” as the lead single off Perry’s upcoming album Teenage Dream, scheduled to drop Aug. 24, has sold 1,471,000 downloads thus far according to Nielsen SoundScan.

With all its charting popularity do you think “California Gurls” will be the summer anthem for 2010?

Katy Perry confirms release date, title of new album

Standard

Katy Perry, who was recently put on the top of Maxim’s 2010 Hot 100 list, and whose new single “California Gurls” has leaked early to rave reviews (and is available for you to rate now at HitPredictor) has confirmed that her new album titled Teenage Dream will drop Aug. 24.

With the announcement and the distinct pop-anthem sound of her new single, it’s clear that Perry has put a stake on the summer.

She recently explained the inspiration behind “California Gurls” to in a statement, explaining that she was inspired by Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind” last year, but felt it was too New York-centric and wanted an anthem for her side of the world. She said: “Everybody was holding their drinks in the air and dancing, and I thought, ‘We’re not in New York, we’re in Los Angeles! What about California? What about all the homies, the gin and juice, the swaying palm trees, the sun-kissed skin 24-7? I decided that we needed to make a response. I want people to want to book a ticket to California the first time they hear it!”

To that end she said she knew she needed to bring Snoop Dogg on board since he is a West Coast icon, “We thought it would sound so cool and give the song another dimension,” she explained. “Snoop is as West Coast as it gets.”
