Adele Back Atop Billboard 200, ‘Glee’s’ the Warblers Debuts

Standard

Adele’s “21” flies back to the top passing Foo Fighters and the new Glee album. This will be Adele’s 5th non-consecutive week at the summit selling 153,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The Warblers – Glee’s next album to place on the charts – debuts at No. 2. This is rather uncommon for the hugely popular show because the Warblers marks the second smallest debut of all ten albums. It is second only to the “Rocky Horror Glee Show.”

Last week’s number one, the Foo Fighter’s “Wasting Light” slides to No. 3.

The rest of the top 10 on the Billboard 200:

  • No. 4 – Disney Channel’s “Lemonade Mouth” soundtrack
  • No. 5 – Britney Spears’ “Femme Fatale”
  • No. 6 – Alison Krauss + Union Station’s “Paper Airplane”
  • No. 7 – Mumford & Sons’ “Sigh No More”
  • No. 8 – Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful Or So What”
  • No. 9 – Chris Brown’s “F.A.M.E.”

Bieber predicted to retain No. 1 position on Billboard 200, only challenge could be MGMT

Standard

It looks like Justin Bieber may lock in a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, according to industry prognosticators, who predict no new releases this week will challenge the teen heartthrob for the top spot. Billboard reports that My World 2.0 is expected to sell around 80,000 copies this week.

The only potential threat to Bieber’s throne is MGMT’s sophomore album, Congratulations, which is forecast to sell between 65,000 and 75,000 copies by the end of the chart week, Sunday April 18.

And while it is definitely possible MGMT could sell more than expected while Bieber sells less, it’s widely predicted that MGMT will not challenge Bieber for the No. 1 slot.

And Bieber is definitely pushing his fan base to help keep him at No. 1, encouraging all fans to get out and purchase the new album, in search of a golden ticket that will earn the lucky recipient a vacation to the Bahamas with Bieber himself!

Do you think Bieber will hold on to No. 1? If so, how long do you think he will be able to?

You better ‘beliebe’ it – Justin Bieber is back on top of Billboard 200

Standard

You’ve got to ‘beliebe’ in the power of Justin Bieber who is again on top of the Billboard 200 with My World 2.0 after selling 102,000 copies of his sophomore effort in its third week on the chart.

As you may recall, it was first atop the list the week it debuted, after selling 283,000 copies, but was pushed into the No. 2 slot after mentor Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond took No. 1 last week. This week the duo switched places, with Raymond v. Raymond coming in at No. 2 after moving 92,000 units this past week.

Billboard reports that the biggest debut this week comes from Slash, whose self-titled album is the legendary guitar god’s first solo effort. However, the former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver member had plenty of support from famous friends on vocals including Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grohl, Kid Rock, Adam Levine, Fergie, and M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold.

Battle of the Sexes is the follow-up to Ludacris’ 2008’s Theater of the Mind which topped out at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

Standard

“Hope For Haiti Now” album tops Billboard 200

Standard

The “Hope For Haiti Now” charity album set a record this week, as it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 171,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it the first digital-exclusive set to top the chart in the 50+ years of the chart’s history.

Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the MTV Networks compilation, which features performances from the Jan. 22 “Hope For Haiti Now” telethon, only reached digital distributors over the weekend, and since the Nielsen SoundScan sales tracking week ends at the close of business on Sunday, the sales numbers encompass no more than two full days of purchases, which makes its sales numbers even more extraordinary!

In other fun facts, as reported by Billboard.com, this week’s “Hope For Haiti Now” debut is the third 100,000+ start at No. 1 for the first three tracking weeks of the year since 2005, following Ke$ha’s “Animal” at 152,000 for the first week of 2010, and Vampire Weekend’s “Contra” at 124,000 last week. Also, “Hope For Haiti Now” is sold through an independent distributor, INgrooves, which makes back-to-back independently distributed No. 1 albums to top the Billboard 200, following last week’s “Contra” from Vampire Weekend.

The rest of the Billboard 200 top 10 shakes out as follows:

  • At No. 2, I Dreamed a Dream, Susan Boyle,  86,000
  • At No. 3, The Fame, Lady Gaga, 62,000
  • At No. 4, Transference, Spoon, 53,000 (debut week)
  • At No. 5, 2010 Grammy Nominees Album, 49,000 (debut week)
  • At No. 6, Contra, Vampire Weekend 43,000
  • At No. 7, The Element of Freedom, Alicia Keys, 40,000
  • At No. 8, Animal, Ke$ha, 35,000
  • At No. 9, The E.N.D., The Black Eyed Peas, just under 35,000
