Lady Antebellum debuts on top

Standard

Lady Antebellum nabbed the top spot on the Billboard 200 last week with the debut of its new album Need You Now which sold 481,000 copies according to Nielsen Sound Scan. The numbers make it the biggest debut sales week for any album since Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream topped the list at 701,000 last November. According to Billboard.com, it is also the biggest opening week for an album released in January since the Game’s The Documentary opened at No. 1 after selling 587,000 copies in 2005.

Lady Antebellum is already leagues ahead in terms of sales when compared to the group’s first-titled album, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 selling 43,000 copies in its opening week in May 2008.
