Gym Class Heroes working on new material, new album to drop next year?

Gym Class Heroes have plans to hit it hard in 2011, that’s according to frontman Travie McCoy who spent much of 2011 focused on his solo debut album Lazarus.

Billboard reports the rapper said he plans to spend all of 2011 with the band, that is already hard at work on the follow-up to 2008’s The Quilt.

McCoy said the new album is slated to be called The Papercut Chronicles II and said  “We’re about 18, 19 demos deep. Some are in the very, very embryonic stages, and some are more refined.”

However, over the holidays expect to see McCoy doing more solo work to promote his album, just as he did last night at the Z100 Jingle Ball in New York, performing his hit “Billionaire.”

He says January and February the bandmates are all planning to work together in the studio – in fact, most of them are there right now! “The guys are actually upstate right now working on it while I finish up the holiday stuff, and then I’ll be heading upstate to work on it; I can’t wait to finish it,” McCoy said.

He also said his third single from Lazarus, “We’ll Be Alright” will be released in January.

Are you excited to hear that Gym Class Heroes are working on new material? Do you like McCoy better as the frontman or as a solo artist?
