Ja Rule to serve two years after guilty plea to attempted weapon possession

Ja Rule’s comeback is going to have to wait a 16 months – 2 years, as the rapper pled guilty to a federal weapons charge this morning.

Billboard reports Ja Rule’s guilty plea will set the rapper up for a two-year prison sentence. The July 2007 gun bust following a concert performance.

the New York Daily news reports Ja Rule was arrested with a loaded .40-caliber taurus pisol inside his Maybach as he and two friends left the upper West Side’s Bacon Theater, following a Lil Wayne & Friends concert. This was the same night Lil Wayne was arrested for gun possession. Although Weezy took the same plea, he only received one year in jail, and was just released in November after serving eight months.

The plea deal was reportedly reached this morning, Monday Dec. 13, in a Manhattan courtroom where the rapper pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, which is a class D felony in the second degree.

Ja Rule could have faced between 3.5 and 15 years in jail, had he gone to trial and been found guilty. By taking the plea the rapper will likely serve up to 16 months in prison along with a year or two of probation.

Ja Rule’s prison sentence is expected to take place in February, his next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 9.

After the  court appearance Ja Rule tweeted “Minor setback for a major comeback.”
