Sarah McLachlan talks Lilith Fair, plenty of cheap tix still available!

Sarah McLachlan’s reprise of Lilith Fair after an 11-year hiatus was actually a pretty easy decision, as she pointed out in a recent interview with Billboard.com.

In the interview McLachlan said; “We talked about it every once in awhile, but the mood shifted last year. Before it was like, ‘Oh no, Lilith, I can’t imagine going back there and doing that again’ to, ‘Y’know, that was a lot of fun…Let’s talk about that’ and we thought, ‘Well, let’s do it again.’ It was pretty much as easy as that.”

She also said the festival remains focused on a female audience, but don’t expect to see a naked woman coming out of a mandrake root as has happened in the past. McLachlan said: “We’re trying to put on a really good musical show. We’re trying to create awareness for local women’s issues in the communities we’re going into. We’re trying to raise money for charity. We’re trying to leave a positive imprint wherever we go.”

However, despite the hype surrounding the return of the festival McLachlan notes ticket sales are still pretty soft right now. She said there are still about 9,000 tickets that are only $25, and feels fan complaints about high prices are unfounded since only about 300 seats out of 16,000 are $250.

“We’re working our hardest to have reasonably priced tickets so it can be accessible for everyone and that people will want to come. We might get slaughtered, I don’t know, but I kind of have blind faith in the fact we’re putting on a really great show and we always have, and that will bring people in the end.”

And, as for what McLachlan plans to play at Lilith Fair, she is excited to play some new songs off her upcoming album, Laws of Illusion, but is prepared to play some of her greatest hits since she knows that’s what fans want to hear. McLachlan said: “I’ll rehearse four or five of the (new) songs and just rotate ’em and do two each night or something like that.”

Lilith Fair officially kicks off June 27 in Calgary and will stop in a total of 36 cities before it closes out Aug. 16 in Dallas.
