2011 Billboard Music Awards Recap

Last night the 2011 Billboard Music Awards were held in Las Vegas (and aired live on ABC) and I’m here to give you the scoop on who performed and who were the biggest winners.

Rapper Eminem and teen pop sensation Justin Bieber each took home 6 awards! There was also a six-way tie for second place with Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Usher, Taylor Swift, Mumford & Sons and Taio Cruz, who each won three trophies.

Eminem won awards in the following categories: Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Billboard 200 Album, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Song and Top Rap Album.

Justin Bieber, the Billboard.com Fan Favorite Award Winner, was also named Top New Artist, Top Social Artist, Top Streaming Artist, Top Digital Media Artist, Top Pop Album and Top Streaming Song (video) at his first-ever Billboard Music Awards.

Winning two Billboard Music Awards each were Katy Perry, Shakira, Chris Tomlin and Train.

The show also featured three special awards. Beyonce Knowles received the Millennium award, Neil Diamond was given the Icon award, and U2 won the touring trophy.

The ceremony also featured performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban, Taio Cruz, Cee Lo Green, Lady Antebellum, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, Far*East Movement, Pitbull, Mary J. Blige with Lil Wayne, OneRepublic, and a special performance by Neil Diamond.

There was also a surprise performance by Rihanna and Britney Spears who collaborated on Ri’s very sexual “S&M” track. Rihanna started out with a chain hand-cuff, a white bodysuit, and thigh-high white boots. Then out popped Brit with a black blindfold and like Rihanna, a black bodysuit. The two stars did a sexy chair dance and then romped on stripper poles until having a pillow fight and throwing feathers everywhere. Watch:
