The Grammys started with a tribute to music royalty Aretha Franklin and honored many other influential artists in music throughout the night. Here’s a band that we’re going to add to that list once they’re old and grey. Lady Antebellum, who took home 3 awards and the group members got 2 more each for songwriting categories (the most awards taken home by anyone). Lady A racked up Best Country Song and Song of the Year for “Need You Now” that they wrote (along with Josh Kear). They also picked up Best Country Album for their album also titled Need You Now. Accepting the award, lead singer, Charles Kelley excitedly claimed, “This song has completely flipped our world upside down.” And by the time they won Record of the Year, they were stunned into disbelief and couldn’t figure out how to get to the stage to accept the award. “Oh my gosh, we’re so stunned we started walking the wrong direction,” said singer Hillary Scott breathlessly.
This picture is from their performance in which they paid tribute to the late Teddy Pendergrass with a verse from his song “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” and their own tunes “American Honey” and of course, “Need You Now.”
I have been routing for Lady Antebellum since day 1, I’m a country music fan but the awards they won prove that you don’t have to like country to love Lady A!
