DJ Lilly’s picks!

Standard

****Due to some computer issues, this weeks’ review will be a little shorter than usual****

Hey HP!

I hope everyone had a fantastic week!

Taylor Swift’s, “Back To December” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 6 this week – very impressive.

Jessie James has a very beautiful new song called “Dear John.” She posted on Twitter recently how she it was just a fun song, and not at all related to Taylor Swift’s.

I liked David Archuleta’s “Elevator” too.

Another track I really liked was Rihanna and Drake’s new song “What’s My Name?” – I actually liked it a lot better than “Only Girl (In the World).”

Taryn Manning has a new single out; it’s called “Spotlight” and so far, everyone that has heard it thinks it’s totally awesome. It is also a nominee in this week’s hidden song contest – hopefully it will make the cut so you can check it out too! Anyways, I think this might be the song that finally puts her on the map. It has a good beat and you can definitely dance to it; and the lyrics are really good too.

Don’t forget to tune in to Resolution Radio for Halloween Weekend (from 7-10 p.m. EDT this Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night).

Prince reveals tour dates for Welcome 2 America tour

Standard

Prince has revealed some of the initial dates for his Welcome 2 America Tour, which we first reported Friday, Oct. 15. The initial announcement was just to describe the tour’s concept, which will have Prince serving as the master of ceremonies for shows that will also feature funk, R&B, and jazz artists joining the star on stage who further promised that no two shows will be the same. So, in keeping up the anticipation & suspense, Prince has just announced a handful of initial dates.

MTV reports that this will be Prince’s first East Coast appearances since 2004! Thus far, Prince has revealed that he will be playing three consecutive nights at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey Dec. 14-17, with two dates scheduled for Madison Square Garden on Dec. 18 and 29. So, it looks like there’s enough time between those dates to add more shows if the demand warrants it.

Tickets for the Welcome 2 America Tour will go on sale this Saturday, Oct. 30.

Among the stars helping Prince put the show together and expected to join him on stage are: Maceo Parker, Janelle Monáe, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, Cassandra Wilson, Sinbad, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E., and Graham Central Station.

MTV also reports that Prince will be playing a custom-built solid-gold Fender Stratocaster, which will be auctioned after the tour to benefit the Harlem Children’s Zone.

Do you plan to make a trip to see Prince’s tour?

T.I. won’t face drug charges in L.A.

Standard

Even though T.I. is headed back to federal prison Nov. 1 because of the parole violation, he will not face charges stemming from his arrest last month in Los Angeles.

Billboard reports L.A. prosecutors have decided not to file a felony drug charge against the 30-year-old rapper who was found to have four ecstasy pills at the time of his arrest.

At the time of the arrest T.I. was on supervised release after just serving 10 months in prison for federal weapons charges. However, because of the violation  T.I. has been subsequently sentenced to serve another 11 months in prison for breaking his federal parole with the L.A. arrest.

Billboard reports the rapper’s release was conditional on not committing another federal, state, or local crime while on supervised release, or to illegally possess any controlled substance.

So why is T.I. not facing charges in L.A.? According to the report, the deputy district attorney cited the sentence and small amount of drugs found on T.I. as the reason charges will not be pursued.

“The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office’s decision to reject TI’s case was the right thing to do under the circumstances,” wrote T.I.’s attorney, Steve Sadow, in an e-mail. He then thanked the D.A.’s office for “exercising its discretion to reject prosecution in light of the legal and factual issues involved.”

Do you think T.I. should have faced drug charges? Or are you happy to see him walk away from the incident in L.A. now that he’s going back to jail for 11 months anyways?
