American Idol not ready to announce new judges’ table (with updates!)

With many anxiously awaiting word of the new American Idol judging lineup for season 10 to be announced today, it looks like you may need to wait a little bit longer.

As we reported last week, Fox was expected to announce the new judges’ table today (Monday, Aug. 2) at the annual Television Critics Association press tour.

However, MTV is reporting (via the Hollywood Reporter) that unnamed sources at Fox have said there will be no news about the judging changes because, according to a source, “no deals are signed.”

Of course, anything is possible and there still could be a big reveal this afternoon, but the Los Angeles Times reported that even the deal for Jennifer Lopez to fill Ellen DeGeneres’ spot has been completely “in principle” to date, and that no proposal has been formally signed.

So, with nothing more than a whole lot of speculation what better to do than speculate more? This morning we put up a poll at HitPredictor based on a Rolling Stone ranking of the top 20 mentors Idol has had over the years, and which they think would be good Idol judges and why. So check it out and let us know which of the 20 you think have the best potential to fill the role and tell us why!

We’ll make sure to keep you as up-to-date with any Idol developments as soon as we hear them.

Update! In an article posted by People magazine, Steven Tyler, when asked about his future plans following a concert in Las Vegas Saturday said: “[I’m] probably going to be judge on American Idol.” People reports Tyler would say very little about Idol only noting:  “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”

No confirmation of the Aerosmith frontman joining the judging panel has come from Fox
